Shovel Leaf Kalanchoe in the GardenTags plant encyclopedia

Kalanchoe Nyikae syn. Kalanchoe hemsleyana

Shovel Leaf Kalanchoe

'Shovel Leaf', the pearly-blue fleshy leaves are so sculptured that the basal end is up-turned to form a scoop; red rimmed in high light. Rosy green flowers impossible to accurately define. Eventually can be exhaused by the effort producing the inflorescence--be sure you have more propagated when you spy the bloom stalk being formed. Strikingly beautiful in structural form and in delicate mother of pearl color tones. (from Glasshouse Works)

Planting young plants

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Use a cacti and succulent potting mix, or your own mix which drains easily (part sand). The panda plant is a slow grower which will only need re-potting once every 2 years and then less once it matures.

Propogation by cuttings

From Early Spring TO Early Spring

Leaf cuttings can be taken and planted in new soil during spring. Give the leaf cutting a week of drying out before re-potting, then you can expect them to begin rooting within 4 weeks.
