That may be a type of lilly but difficult to tell without seeing the actual flower

Definitely a lilly ... just not sure on the variety; i'll post some pics when they decide it's time to flower.

@David the lower leaves on my Lilly's have been munched by snails (we have a lot). Keen not to poison our daughter who eats most of the garden, i'm led to believe a few sprigs of holly on the ground will deter them... as well as the cats who use the flower beds as a toilet... would you have any holly in your garden of which you could spare a few sprigs? @justin thanks for your help with all the plant ID's

Youre welcome... You could also try a half filled plastic cup of beer dug into the garden so rim is level with earth. Slugs ans snails are attracted to smell and fall in and drown... Cruel yes but effective! http://www.slugoff.co.uk/killing-slugs/beer-trap

Hi Adam. If you are worried about little A drinking the beer :-) another simple trick is putting down bark or sand from the beach! Slugs HATE crawling over rough surfaces. I have the same problem with my hostas but it definitely lessens when i put down fresh bark.
