Summer has been pretty harsh the past weeks, some of my plants did not survive. :( this one lost two leaves but grew a flower! It’s the first time I’ve seen one bloom
@gjones haha yes its flower is really small too. i’ve been enjoying all the pictures of spring on GT! its an escape from the summer heat over here.
Beautiful!!

My mother gave this plant to me a month ago, and one leaf had holes. What causes the leaves to get this? The plant is otherwise quite healthy and no other leaves have it 😕
Thank you @gjones ill do some research but it could be any of those three. There are little ones growing out of the pot which im thinking of repotting elsewhere just in case it is bugs. Already wiped the leaves clean with a wet cloth too!
Wow thanks @cyndi for the helpful tips. I have never heard of DE yet and I am unsure if we have it where I’m from. I will certainly try using cinnamon tho! More research to be done.
I know it's difficult finding special products in The Philippines but you can possibly find diatomaceous earth at swimming pool supply companies. I get mine from Amazon and shipping here can be expensive.
@strongbad thank you for the tip!! shipping here is expensive, and the local postal offices cannot all be trusted. i did some digging and found that i could purchase some online via the “shopee” app.
@cyndi thanks, the DE that i found is food grade! 🙂 seems to me that many plant hobbyists locally don’t use it very often as ive never heard/read about it yet online (unless its an unspoken secret haha) i am enjoying learning new plant care tips here in this community! thanks a bunch!!
@cyndi such clever tips!!! thank you! i will try it myself 😁
Plant resurrection! This used to be a tall and double leafed elephant ear and it was attacked by spider mites (I really hate those things with all my might 🤬) this eventually led me to cut it back to its rhizome. 😔 After a few months of wishing and hoping with modest expectations, it has sprouted a new leaf! 🤩 My question tho is, how do you make sure those bugs won’t attack it again? 😵☹️ So traumatized by those pests!🤕 #alocasia
i usually dilute dishwashing soap and spray on, specially the underside of the leaves where the pests attack.
