@gjones Ahh! one of the things you ought to try if u find urself in SE asia! yes it can be peeled with bare hands, the flesh is firmer than lychee and the pit has a texture like bark. It is very juicy, tastes sweet and a bit sour and has a really diff taste than lychee imo.
Similar texture to lychee, but maybe a little bit less juicy. I visited SE asia in 2010 and I could not get over all the different kinds of fruit there are there that I'd never seen before. "The produce alone was worth the trip."
