I have inherited an unruly apple tree of some sorts where the branches are growing bottom up (if that makes sense !?!) I wondered if anyone could identify this variety and whether or not the apples could be edible. Appreciate that it's not safe to assume that a photo can determine whether or not they are safe for consumption- query is more out of intrigue... Thank you in advance 🍎🍏#plantid
@mikethegardener Hello 😊 I've recently joined GardenTags and have discovered your videos which I really enjoy watching. They're great and immensely helpful- thank you! I just wondered if you could possibly advise on my query above. I can't seem to find any similar species... and just wondered if you had come across anything like this before. Thank you in advance if you are able to advise 😊
Im not a fruit tree expert (or trees even) my guess is that its fruiting like that because of the way it was previously pruned and they look good to eat to me but wait for some more solid advice 😊
Thanks so much @broughgardens appreciate your take on it. Yeah the way it is growing is bothering me and I'm not quite sure how to train it back to a more conventional direction of growth. It's a funny one!
Its defo a strange 1! Im sure you will get the right help on here #advice
@AlisaJ This is a Chaenomeles speciosa, or Cydonia • To compare with other images, note the small round leaves at the nodes contrasted with the longer pointed terminal shoots
@ianshaw thank you so much! I'll take a look. Really appreciate you advising!
Morning Gtagers! Lovely sunny start to the day ☀️☀️ Have a great one 💕
