2016 is the first year I have been able to do any gardening. I live in southwestern Ohio, USA. I love roses, orchids, toad lilies...everything 😁

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bailmacfive' (Endless Summer Series) syn. Hydrangea macrophylla 'Summer Crush'

I planted one like this Summer Crush a couple of weeks ago, and it’s struggling. Droopy, and the two large flowers on it shriveled up. It has a smaller flower that’s doing fine. Strangely, the blue one I planted at the same time - in the same bed - is doing beautifully. They get shade most of the day, with a little sun here and there that shows through the tree branches. Crossing my fingers that the pink hydrangea will make it!

@tsemigh@gmail.com I have never had much luck with Hydrangea. Tried many with little to no success. Last year I bought 3. Two were clearance (this is one of them) and one bigger full price one. All 3 came back this year. Could have been the warm winter. This one is the only one blooming. Been doing so for a month. This one is also planted in the exact same location as a hydrangea that didn’t make it. Hopefully they all return next spring too.

@hkyfvr that is great. I struggle with hydrangeas. If what you said it true then maybe this one will work out for me.

I seem to have better luck with panicle hydrangeas here but my summer crush is leafing out now. Our Winter was hard on some plants. The bunnies like to nibble on things too. 🤷‍♀️

If given ericaceous soil do the flowers go blue or purple ish?

@cranners1985 the bottom right corner of the tag show the color range depending on the soil. I don’t care which color it is, I just want it to come back each year 😂

@hkyfvr I have tried so many and they have failed. I have one that I bought in the floral section of a grocery store. And it is the only one that comes back every year for me. It is still very small because it was just a stem with a Pom Pom flower head when I got it. But it is slowly getting bigger. It has big dark green leaves. So I thought this one might work too.

To be honest my summer crush did not bloom last year but was amazing the year before. I think I pruned it too much. I am hoping for flowers this year. I watched a you tube video from Overdevest Nursery in the North East and the gentleman was very knowledgeable. He said Bloomstruck andSummer Crush are the best mop head hydrangeas. Best of luck with yours 🤞🤞😍
