2016 is the first year I have been able to do any gardening. I live in southwestern Ohio, USA. I love roses, orchids, toad lilies...everything 😁

There maybe only one flower on the tree it’s first year in my garden. But that one flower is as big as my hand, 6 inches. And it is still opening. Can’t wait to see it fully open!

Can peonies be grown in planters?

6w
comment
ambitiouswolf

@wvande Yes you can. But they have large root systems so you need big and deep pots. And make sure it has the drainage holes in the pot.

So I removed the ones growing up from the ground . They just didn’t look like the ones on the tree. And I mounded up soil much higher. So it can self root.

I know tree peonies are grafted. I think the part growing from the ground to the left might be from the grafted part. The leaves look different then on the tree.

ambitiouswolf

I just read what I need to do. Cut the grafted growth down below the dirt. Then add more soil up higher around it. Tree peonies will grow their own roots. But mine is not deep enough.
