Attempting to create a nice garden on a low budget. I have a chronic illness so it's a slow process but it's my happy place 😁 Raydon, Suffolk.

I've tried eggshells, Vaseline and copper tape and still the snails are munching 🤦‍♀️

Oh no! Sometimes I have had to just resort to the dreaded slug pellets, mind you even they don't always work. Persistent little beggars they are! 🐌

Oh nooooo 😟 next year try coffee grounds under egg shells and raise your pot off the ground either with bricks or feet, and try spraying with garlic too 👍 that's the only alternatives I can advise but works for me, I get the odd nibble later on but nothing as drastic as this, they do tend to like newish plants 😣😣

I grow all my Hostas in pots, Anne. I either stand the pots on a gravel base or raise them off the ground with feet. I top dress the pots with a generous layer of gravel as well. Over the years I’ve tried egg shells, copper tape, Vaseline and other advertised remedies but the gravel is the only one that works. A garlic spray is also good but I don’t like the smell so I steer clear of that one!!! I hope that helps 🤞 @anne8691

I don't grow hostas for that reason but I was given a dahlia this year which is also 'slug food' 😅 I'm keeping it in a pot on my garden bench and snails/slugs haven't reached it yet 😂😂😂👍 The only other thing I'd say is that it has to be away from vertical surfaces as well as the slugs/snails in my garden love to climb walls and fences 😬

Thanks Keely and Barbara I'll try the coffee grounds and garlic spray next year. I do have one put raised but the snails still ate it 😡

I use pea gravel, Laura, which is quite gritty, so I think the roughness of it does deter the slugs and snails. @columbiariver
