Hibiscus 'Pride of Hankins'. Small flower, looks like a beautuful deep red Carnation. Hardy, tough, never stops flowering. Vigorous grower, needs regular pruning. Must try some cuttings as it is tough as boots and withstands heat and drought. #hibiscus-red #hibiscus #hibiscus-prideofhankins #toughasboots

Hibiscus 'Pride of Hankins'. Last time I posted a pic of this true, clear red flower it was mysteriously flecked with white. Learned that water is needed to activate red colour. After a bucketful of good rain last week, the flower has returned to its original beauty. This is a good, hardy hibiscus to grow if obtainable. Needs constant strong pruning to keep good shape and provide an abundance of carnation like flowers. Prunings make the best stock for grafting. #hibiscus #hibiscus-prideofhankins
@brightcolours Has the plant/cutting I gave you ages ago, survived? I will plant up some cuttings when I return from India. It is hardy and will fill in some bare patches. Ideal for our climate.
Beautiful ❤️💕
It's absolutely stunning 😍
Sadly, no, Annette. 😕

Hibiscus 'Pride of Hankins'. Mystery, this flower has suddenly developed flashes of white. Not just one flower, every flower on the bush. Grown this normally small, plain, deep red, carnation like flower, in two gardens for ten years, never had white markings. I do like it but it has me baffled 🤔🙃 #hibiscus #hibiscus-prideofhankins
I wonder if these markings are a sign of a virus, Annette? I know they can occur on some plants. Maybe someone can advise? @richard.spicer.7906 @melvynprentice @ublaszko 🤞 @Annettenoosa
Barbara, normally is a mutation occurring within the flower. Causes can be growing conditions, soil etc or plants trying to revert @jacaranda 😊
❤️
Thanks Melvyn @melvynprentice Does this help Annette? @Annettenoosa
@jacaranda and #melvynprentice Apparently red pigment in flower is activated by water. Mutation probably due to unusual long hot summer and very little rain. I remember last year my deep red Mandevilla mysteriously turned muddy red and developed a pretty white edge. Generous amount of watered in feed seemed to fix it. Raining now, let's see if next week's flowers on this heirloom specie return to its historical colour. Thankyou for your help. 🐝🐝⚘

Hibiscus 'Pride of Hankins'. So hot the buds are burning and falling from the bush. Facing east, receiving morning sun with afternoon shade. It is hot.
-1 here Annette 😱
😲 Wow!
35 west of Caboolture atm!@jaynehynesburton!! I have just been planting some bromeliads in our rainforest area, here’s hoping they will survive! Sorry about your hibiscus @annettenoosa!
@jaynehynesburton wish we could swap a few degrees🔥🌞
I'll go for that Annette, I will have 20 of yours 😁
@tessafox-veling certainly punishing on the garden at present. The hibiscus will bounce back. My hippeastrums are suffering though with scorched leaves dying prematurely. Keep the broms shaded until the heat intensity decreases.

Hibiscus 'Pride of Hankins'. Constantly covered in rich, red, double flowers, which are small but abundant. This hibiscus is a vigorous grower needing regular (monthly) pruning to keep in shape. #hibiscus #hibiscus-prideofhankins
