Cape Gooseberry. Covered in golden balls of sweet sunshine. When these are ripe, they are my little sweet fruits I pick and eat as I walk round my garden. They are cleverly camouflaged too so the birds do not find them. #capegooseberry

Cape Gooseberry bush is covered in ripening golden fruit. These are not the green European gooseberry that are cooked in pies. These are sweet and taste best eaten straight from the bush. The outer casing protects them from the birds too. #capegooseberry

@Annettenoosa How long did it take to get first fruit after they were planted? Looks like something I’d like to try. Tom

@Annettenoosa Thanks for the info. I’ll hunt for some seed. I’m thinking they would be about like saving tomatillo seeds but smaller. Things that grow in husks lanterns just fascinate me. Thanks again. Tom

Cape Gooseberry 'Golden Gem'. These little golden balls of sunshine are full of goodness, high in vitamin C and antioxidants. They are juicy and sweet, best eaten raw, straight from the bush. My father grew these berries. As a child, the morning custom was to pick a handful to eat while we walked around the garden observing and learning. #capegooseberry
