Here’s a glimpse into the life of an Endoxyla encalypti (wattle goat moth), found along the Australian east coast from Qld to Tas. This one chewed its way out of the roots of an Acacia melanoxylon (Blackwood). It crawled up the tree leaving its discarded caterpillar casing behind; took about an hour to pump up the wings to their full size. The adults haven't a mouth so don't feed, just mate! They live about 3 weeks and lay eggs in the bark of this tree. #wildlifewednesday #moth
