8 Aug 18 • Teasels are not only loved by bees and other wildlife but can really add structure to your garden too. Oh and they’re free, if you let them self-seed 😉🐝 #wildlifewednesday

Morning Jacqueline happy bee enjoying every last bit 🐝💜

Yes, they sit flat on the ground like foxgloves for a year before shooting up @Jasonsparkes1

It was funny Pauline, it was actually just sitting there. Must have been having a little rest 😉😂 @pauline33

I've seen a lot of them doing that think they're like us enjoying the cooler air 😊

My godson decided they were called “hedgehog sticks”!

Then that is what I shall now call them, tell him 😉😂 @JaneyL

10 Jun 2018 • I now realise it’s quite hard to see but I decided a dead teasel is much better than a bamboo cane for my rhodochiton purple bells to use to climb up into the wisteria 👍

Loving all the pix, too tired to comment on them all but it’s all looking fabulous x x x 😘

Thanks Claudia but you never need to comment, I’m just glad to know you’ve enjoyed looking at them. I’ve got lots of cataloguing ones to add but the garden has been so lovely for the last few weeks that I haven’t got round to posting all the boring ones 😉 @clipperty

All safe and sound Dinyar. Filled with teasels (& some canes), so the birds can still have the seeds @dinyar

Nice. Keep something heavy, like a bag of sand, at the bottom to prevent toppling off.

Good idea. I'll put some stones at the bottom. I don't want it to have anything that can freeze and crack it 👍🏻 @dinyar

Yes. That is a good idea. Also make sure that no dead branch or live branch falls on it. Where are you located?

I'm in Cumbria, North West England @dinyar

Wow! I am in Atlanta, Georgia which is just north of Florida. We lived in NYCity for 25 yrs then in Westchester county- north of NYC for another 24 yrs and 2 yrs ago moved here bc i could not bear the extreme cold weather in NY. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I get flareups when exposed to cold. I always admire and love everything English❤️- especially English thatched roof cottages, gardens, food, (shh- women 👄also); except the weather. I thought about retiring in the south part - where it d

Does not snow.

It doesn't get all that cold here (occasional snow) but it is very wet, so often feels colder than it is. It's the wet cold that kills off plants that might be hardy elsewhere in England 😥

Let's switch places seasonally. Here it is warm to hot from April to October/November and slightly cold Dec- Jan and then very cold but No snow until March. 💕. You are most welcome here. I will help all i can if you like to live here. May not be easy if you have small kids 👩👩👦

I hope i am not causing inconvenience as it must be late right now.

Thank you for the kind offer @Dinyar but I am very happy where I am 🇬🇧 😉😂

I am sure. You do live in the most beautiful country and you have a beautiful garden. What else one wants?

When is a plant a weed? When is a #weed not a weed? #thoughtfortheday

Teasel is the flower of Kendal. A particular variety, with a little curl at the end of the seed head spikes, was used to 'tease' the wool fabric and lift the nap. So there you go... #teasel

I quite like to see them Jacqueline. 😊😊

Thanks Laura, I know we do, and lots of modern medicines come from plants we consider as weeds. Teasels grow to over 2m, they look fantastic and statuesque but mine have a habit of seeding in the little nook at the very front of the border... @columbiariver

Me too Jane. I felt bad pulling this out - probably why I took its photo first 😂@pelly

Well you learn something new every day , 👍👍

You do! There is lots more useless information where that came from 😂😂 @juliesgarden

🤣🤣🤣 keep it coming then !!

As long as you're sure Julie?!! 😂😂😂 @juliesgarden

Go for it, I can take it 🤣🤣

Missed it till now but still valid thought of the day there 😊😁👌 ironically I’m looking for teaser seeds 😁 how’s you this fine North east wee corner of our woods x

😂 Better late than never! If you don’t find any let me know and I can always send you some later in the year. All good here, hope it is with you too 😘 @Naomi126

They're a bit too big for a vase, so decided to go for an outdoor dried flower display 😉

Has anyone got any wool to tease? #autumn

Teasel. Which came first the plant or the action? Used to raise the nap of woollen fabrics, it is the flower of #Kendal. It has self-seeded madly & many are over 7' tall but I can't bring myself to cut them down...

@suzyw Not at all! It will give height and structure to your garden & the birds love the seeds. It also looks great when it dies as it stays tall & stately 🖤

@suzyw Dont worry! You need them to self-seed a bit or they won't reappear as they are biennials, like foxglove, & die after flowering (Sorry If you already know this) 🙃🙂

@suzyw Now wouldn't it be good if we could sell our panic to the chilled-out? 😂😂

@suzyw 😂😂😂
20 Aug 18 • Teasel, the flower of Kendal. I haven’t been on here much until today, as I’ve been supporting my son who ran the Bob Graham on Friday/Saturday: 66 Miles, 25,000’ of climbing and 42 Lakeland fell tops in 21h 49m. To say I am proud is an understatement, so I couldn’t help myself but tell you all. Hope you don’t mind 😘
@awomanonabike One very proud mum, congratulations young man 👏👏💕👏
Thank you Sue 😘 @suerichards
@womanonabike Wow that is an achievement!
That’s sounds like a lot of exercise!! Well done! 😊
Goodness me that’s some feat, you have to be fit for that one... big congrats to him..🏃🏻♂️
One hell of an achievement, please don't apologize Jacqueline, you must be so proud 😘😘
It really is Ange 😱 @anges
An awful lot Alison! He thinks he might have a few days off now... 😉😂 @bluefox23
It’s a huge feat Elaine. Hard to get your head round and the weather was foul. He only saw one of the Fell tops! @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Thank you Jane. I am very proud - also proud of myself for not crying with relief as he ran into Keswick at the end 🙄😂🤣 @pelly
I don't blame him! Think he deserves it!
