A bit of sunshine on the #rhodochiton this Christmas Eve 🎄 I hope you all manage to salvage a great Christmas from the wreckage of 2020. What a year! 🎁🎄🥂✨
Beautiful photo, enjoy the festive time
At least the gardens benefitted from all the extra attention.
That’s a beautiful flower- merry Christmas 🎄- looks like we all have sunshine 🌞
Thank you Aly. You too! @thehardygardener
Absolutely Joan. Thank goodness for our gardens. We are so lucky 😊 @joannie.a
It’s a wonderful one isn’t it Sharon and the sunshine makes all the difference doesn’t it 😊 @sharonhayden
Happy Christmas, Jacqueline. 2021 will definitely be better!!! 😘😘
Cheers
Happy Christmas Barbara 🎄 I’m sure you are right 😊 @jacaranda
Happy Christmas and stay safe
Thank you Noel, you too 😊 @nojo920

Not the best photo but that’s because my #rhodochiton from last year is now high up in the wisteria 💜🖤
Oh yeah I can see it...fab 👍🏼
Good grief, that's amazing. It must love you 💜💜💜
I almost cut it back in the spring. So glad I didn’t... @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
😂 It certainly loves the wisteria @pelly

I was wrong! The ones in pots are still teeny but look what I found hiding amongst the wisteria 💜@joanboston @pelly #rhodochiton
Oh wow, it would seem that I'm lagging somewhat 😱😂
Well done Jacqueline!
I was really surprised Jane. I had noticed it a couple of months ago but it was looking pretty dead and I almost cut it down. I’m glad I didn’t 😃 @pelly
😊 Thanks Joan, though not sure I did much tbh #survival-by-neglect 🙄 @joanboston
Always a nice surprise when something comes back to life😂
Oh I’ve got that.....I think🤔 it’s climbing anyway I’ll have to check..
Definitely! 😃 @joanboston
Hope so... 🤞@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Is it also called cathedral bell plant, if so I’ve got it if it’s not I haven’t.....😏🤞🏼
I’m afraid you haven’t Elaine. You’ve got Scobaea scandens. Also fab but much, much bigger flowers. I’ve grown it once but it took it to almost the first frost to produce its first flower so it didn’t win me over 😉🙄 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Thanks Jacqueline that’s a shame oh never mind maybe another year...👍🏼😉

There should be a name for all that effort to grow from seed and then discovering that all of last year’s plants have come back... 🤷♀️
Yes annoying 😂😂😂
I now have to decide whether to pot up my seedlings... normally I’d be able to give them to friends 😢 @juliesgarden
I’ve had to throw a few for the same reason 🙄
I'm just grateful that last year's have come back as my seeds failed and it looks like a very tiny cutting is going to grow too 👌
Such a shame Julie but #theresalwaysnextyear 😉😉 @juliesgarden
Strange about your seeds but I’m glad your plants have come through. It’s definitely one of my favourites 💜 @pelly
The thing is a harder winter may have finished them off ....
I know. I know. There still needs to be a name for it though 😉😂 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
#thewomanwhogrewtoomuch!
😂 Not a name for me 🤷♀️🙄😉😂 @sharonhayden
🤔😜

I know it doesn’t look like much but, hidden amongst the emerging stems of the #physalis is a self-seeded #rhodochiton This makes me so happy. For the eagle-eyed, there is also a self-seeded #clematis-montana 💚💜
- Early Spring 2020
- 31
Here’s one of my #self-seeded #rhodochiton Jane 🤔 @pelly
I've potted mine up, I'm still not sure whether there is a seedling in there but I'm pretty sure it's a Campanula. Thanks for posting Jacqueline 👍😘
Well I’m sure it will be very happy in it’s nice new home whatever it is 😊 @pelly

It’s cake plate time aka #whatareyousowing I have no idea if these will grow but there were lots of seed pods on the #rhodochiton in various stages of near decay... Anyway, I thought it was worth a try 🤞
What no cake 🤣
I do love a bit of recycling 👍
What a great idea, my echinacea have just poke their heads through the soil, so always worth a go 😊
Sadly no! Ate the last piece this morning. Nigella’s chocolate Guinness cake as it happens 😋😋😋 @jaynehynesburton
And it gets recycled back to a cake plate when the opportunity arises 😉😂 @churchfarmgarden
Well done Angie 👏 @angiecrazycatlady
I lost my seeds, don't have a clue what I did with them 🙄 good luck 😍👍
Oh dear. Well I might order some seedlings too as they were really good last year 🤔 @pelly
The one you gave me last year has some new growth on it Jacqueline 👍🏼😀
That’s brilliant Sarah. I look forward to seeing it in the summer 😃💜😃💜😄@sieveheadsarah
That's what I did last year. I also noticed another of last year's has started sprouting, so hopefully I'll have at least three 👍

14 Oct 2019 • This is the one that came back again this year. It’s in a large pot on a west facing balcony but gets no sun from November until February... 💜@pelly @jacaranda @joanboston
I'm going to try and overwinter mine but as it's not too big and trailing I'll do it in the greenhouse. Question time and I may sound rather silly here.........are the seeds inside the pod or do you sow the whole pod? @jacaranda @joanboston 🤔🤔
They are inside. I just sprinkled one of the pods into the soil in this pot. The pod is quite thin and fragile. I wasn’t really expecting anything but I got loads of seedling which I then potted up and gave away 😊 @pelly
What a fantastic plant, Jacqueline 😍
Not at all silly, Jane, as I was wondering the same 😂 @pelly 🤔
Thanks Barbara and yes, not silly at all Jane 😊 @jacaranda @pelly
Loving this.....wish list me thinks...
Thanks Jacqueline, I thought that would be it but wasn't sure. I'm not getting many with all this rain, it's turning them to mush 😬😬
Phew, thanks Barbara 🙏🙏
Ooh definitely Elaine. I’ve grown it every year since I first came across it 4 or 5 years ago. I love it 💜@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
I haven’t had any yet Jane and I don’t think they formed until pretty late in the year last year. Possibly not even until January or even February @pelly
I've had four pods so far, I'm sure they must be seed pods, little brown balls? 🤔🤔

19 Aug 2019 • I think it’s looking rather photogenic in the evening sun 💜☀️ @rachelbrooks #rhodochiton #purplebellvine
Splendiferous! 💜💚 How’s the passionflower that was in with this doing? (That is this one isn’t it? 🤔)
It is! Well remembered. God she’s good 🤓 It made it too - just. It was very late appearing but is in there somewhere 🧐 @rachelbrooks
That’s a great display of flowers, Jacqueline 😍 Mine are pretty weedy by comparison 😢
Thanks Barbara but sorry too 😐 There is still time for it to buck up 😉😂 @jacaranda
I hope so Jacqueline 👍
Well that’s a start! I remember waiting for the flower to open last year before Katie and I left! 😘💜
I wish I had grown mine up rather than in a hanging basket, it still looks good though 💜💜
I’d forgotten that - you are my garden hard-drive 😉😂 Hopefully there is time yet for it to flower then. At least it’s not dead, which I thought it was for a long time @rachelbrooks
I bet it looks fantastic hanging down from a basket Jane. What a great idea! @pelly
Thanks Jacqueline, I'll post a pic 👍👍

5 May 2019 • This may not look like much but it means my #rhodochiton has over-wintered 😃 ...unlike the Passion flower that it shared a pot with that I full expected to see again.
Brilliant 👍
It’s great isn’t it Carol! @carolgs
Wow! Brill! Must go and have a firkle...🤭 see if there’s any signs of life on mine!
Have fun! I couldn’t believe it 😃 Of course, I’ve just taken delivery of 5 seedlings from T&M... 🙄 @rachelbrooks
🙈 well you can’t have too much of a good thing surely?! 😉
That’s my thinking too 💜 @rachelbrooks

11 Feb 2019 • I think the #rhodochiton thinks it’s still Christmas #beautyindecay
I must go and have a peep at mine...🤔
No firkling needed 😉 @rachelbrooks
No...this one comes ready made! 😳🙊😆😆
😳🙊🙉😂 @rachelbrooks
I completely forget the other day, when you asked about deadheading this, that if you do you miss these wonderful seed balls! @pelly
Oh no, I wouldn’t want to miss those. Thanks Jacqueline 😍😍
The seedlings I got just by popping one of these into the soil 🙄 @pelly
Here you go Jane 💜 @pelly
Ahh, brilliant, now I know what I’m looking for, thanks Jacqueline 👍😘
Gosh! It was February. Here you go Barbara and Jane. This is what mine looked like when I split them and sowed them @jacaranda @pelly
That’s what mine looked like and like I said the latest ones to have gone over have gone to a mush but I’ve got a lot more flowers now, so hopefully I’ll be able to harvest some more 🤔🤔

7 Feb 2019 • Here you are Jane. The last of the flowers still purple this morning. If this makes it through the winter I will be over the moon 🤸♀️🌒 @pelly
🤞🤞🤞 #rhodochiton #wintercolour
Not that rude vine again 😁😂😂😂
Oh my, it must be well adjusted to your weather up there!! 👍💜
Ermmm...what’s occurring?! Mine does not look like this!! It looks very much worse for wear! Must be all that Cumbrian sunshine! 🤔😉
Yup! @ublaszko
I suppose it is quite protected as it’s on the balcony and against a wall 🤞🤞🤞 @pelly
Don’t worry, most of mine don’t either Rachel. Though they do look like little Christmas tree decorations 🤔 @rachelbrooks

27 Nov 18 • It’s still going! 💕💜💕
Wow😀
Fabulousness! 💜💕💜 how’s the one out the front doing?
I have lifted the one on the tripod by the front door, as the frame blew over and a lot of it died, but I’ve potted it up and put it in the greenhouse so we’ll see. The one growing out of the pot with the magnolia is still flowering too 😃💜 @rachelbrooks
Thanks Jason. I don’t grow many annuals as I don’t have the patience but I love this @Jasonsparkes1
Doh! Ooh! Be interesting to see how it fares then! I’m amazed how well they’re still doing!
That’s amazing.....it doesn’t look hardy but it must be as tough as old boots..💞
Mine are still going too, Jacqueline and Rachel. Wonderful plants 😍😍 @awomanonabike @rachelbrooks
Are yours still outside Barbaranda? 🤔😘 @jacaranda
Yes Rachel. One is in a pot at the side of the house (climbing up the drainpipe!) and the other is in a hanging basket with a buddleja. I’m going to leave them in situ for the time being as neither can really be moved into the greenhouse. It hasn’t been really cold here yet so it will be interesting to see what happens when the temperatures finally drop. @rachelbrooks 😘
Ah! I thought you said you were leaving yours out! I will be with mine too...they’re in the veg patch which is fairly sheltered so hopefully they’ll make it, along with all of ours! 🤞🏼😘 @jacaranda
I’m going to leave this one and the one in with the magnolia out as the pots are too big to move. I don’t think they’ll make it but you never know @rachelbrooks @jacaranda

It on mine too love love love it💜💜💜
They do make me giggle🤗
#purplebellendvine 🙈 @Denise16
🤣🤣🤣
Me too - love it/giggle factor. Just don’t show that Rachel @rachelbrooks though🙈😆x x x @carolgs @Denise16 #purplebellendvine #apnc
What..?! 🤷🏻♀️ as if I’d be amused by a plant that looks slightly phallic 🙄 purleeeeaase! *sniggers under breath* 🙊 @clipperty and only mildly annoyed that yours is bigger than mine Jacq! 😆😆
It’s fab and is going on my wish list 💕
Gorgeous, went on my wish list yesterday 💜💜
It’s not the size that matters Rachel but how you display it 😬😬 @rachelbrooks
It’s a great climber Elaine. Another for your pergola?! @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Well deserved Jane. This one is growing with the passiflora incarnata and I’ll probably do the same next year @pelly

13 Sep 18 • This has been fabulous this year. Just 💜 it #purple
Absolutely gorgeous 💕
Thank you Kerry. I can’t take complete credit as I bought it as a plug plant. I grew them from seed last year but these have been so much better 💜😊 @kez001uk
Gorgeous. Look forward to seeing yours! 💜😉 although mine has got quite a lot of flahrs now too ☺️
It’s a brilliant plant isn’t it Rachel. And has a really long flowering season. Last year the flowers stayed on after the first frosts and looked gorgeous @rachelbrooks
Wow, love it! Just put it on my wish list 🤗
It deserves its place there I’m sure Maria 👍😍 @maria16
Very pretty and isn’t it wonderful when they bloom all the summer seasons!!! Very nice, they look very happy 😊💕
Thanks Terri and yes, makes them such good value 👌 @terrimclaughlin
Wow💜💜💜
They’re a bit unusual aren’t they Belinda? @belindah
Excellent! Mine has only just really got going so I’ll be pleased if it last a while yet ☺️👍🏼

7 Aug 2018 • Here are mine Rachel & Carol: climbing through a passionflower; a dried teasel; the frame with sweet peas on; and Fuchsia Hawkshead. I really love them 💜🖤 @rachelbrooks @carolgs
It's lovely 💕
Ooh yours is massive and so many flowers! 💕💜 do you have it in full sun (Cumbrian full sun!) Jacq?
Thanks Carol, it’s just a fabulous climber even if it is just an annual @carolgs
This is four different plants. None are in all day sun but they do get either all morning or all afternoon sun. And yes the sun does shine here too...sometimes 😜 @rachelbrooks
Sadly mine got frazzled by the sun. Will try in part shade next year....
😉 ah ok. Mine gets the same...maybe just not very strong seedlings ☺️
That's just lovely Jacqueline 😍😍
What a shame Bronwyn. Some of the flowers went very pale on the one that gets most sun but it has pulled through now it is cooler 😎 @Bronno
I grew mine from seed last year and they were OK but this year I got plug plants and they were so much quicker to establish 👍 @rachelbrooks
Thanks Jane. Really love this plant 😍 @pelly

12 Jul 2018 • We have rain! 💦☔️💦☔️💦☔️💦 Proper big drops of rain. It’s been so long, I can almost hear the plants sigh with relief 💙😊💙
🎉🎉🎉
It’s not fair we want some...☹️☔️
What is this mythical phenomena of which you speak..? 🤔😉
It’s stopped here so maybe it’s moved on towards you Elaine. Hope so 😊 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
😂😂 It’s the clouds crying Rachel 😉 @rachelbrooks
Oh, I’ll have to upset them here then so they start crying here! Oh hold on...there aren’t any! 🙄🤣
Ah. You do need to have clouds first 🙄😉😬 @rachelbrooks

10 Jul 2018 • Just 💜 these...and they’re not nearly as rude as they were last summer 🤔😉🙄
Beautiful 💜💜💜
Pleased I didn’t see them last year.....😳😆💜👌🏼
I’m not a big fan of growing annuals Sue but I make an exception for these 😊 @suerichards
Scroll left Elaine... @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
OMG.....😳I’m going to wash my hands 💜💜💜🤣👍🏼 back in a minute
😂🤣😂🤣😂 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
🤣😂🤣 they’re hilarious! They’ve got very long... noses... to them 🤥😆
They have...indeed. They are fascinating though Alisa, as the whole flower starts out very tiny and then the true flower is just at the end so these are really just flower buds. They are hilarious though 😉😂 @AlisaJ
Ooo er missus 🤥🤥 big noses 😆😆💟
Why Vanessa? What were you thinking? 😜 @nessas
Pinocchio 🤥 tut of course 🙄🙄😆😆

Love watching these flowers develop 💜🖤💜
Isn't it amazing Lynda. If you swipe you can see it's progress! @LyndaClack
Aren't those ace 👍👍
Oh that's fab 💜💜
Very Susie! Bit of an impulse seed buy and they all germinated so my friends all have them too 😊 @susieg
Thanks Julie, it really is @juliesgarden
How very sinuous and art nouveau! Love it 👌🏼💜
Also, looks much nicer now it doesn't resemble a naughty bit! 🙊
It does doesn't it Rachel! It's been fascinating to watch it grow as the flowers start off absolutely tiny - smaller than a very small thing - and grow rather than just open. @rachelbrooks
That's small!! 😂 and yes, very unusual 👌🏼💜
Very nice 😀👌🏼

These are wonderful: the flowers start off so tiny and then gradually enlarge. It has taken a while to get going but it's finally repaying the effort (grown from seed) 💗
💕💕💕
Pretty 💕💕
It is really pretty Keely & Vanessa @Keely @nessas
#floweringinoctober
Beautiful!
