When I'm not on my bike, you'll find me in my organic-ish garden in #Cumbria. Favourite plants? Wisteria, hellebores, peonies, philadelphus...

I don’t know Elaine. I think maybe we’ve got a vole in the greenhouse. 🤔 Whatever it is, it has just chomped through the stems of all my cuttings that I took in the autumn 😢@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom

If it's any consolation I got Nachvlinda last year and Neil caught it with the lawn mower, it didn't survive 😥

8 Oct 2019 • I have soooo much catching up to do on here... First off though, advice please 😃 These are my first #salvia-cuttings which I’ve now potted up individually and they are doing great on the kitchen window sill. Can I now put them in my (frost-free🤞) greenhouse? And do I keep nipping them out or should I just leave them to do their own thing? #advice-salvia #advice

I've just done some Amistad and Black and Blue cuttings and they went straight into the greenhouse. The ones I did last year went all winter in an unheated greenhouse 👍👍

Thanks Jane, that’s really useful. The bit of the greenhouse that I insulate and heat is very small so if I don’t have to do that, all the better. Do you pinch them out much or do you think their growth will just slow down once they are in the greenhouse? 🤔 @pelly

5w

joanboston

I would keep pinching them, otherwise I find they tend to flower, which you don’t want at this stage

It makes a change for me to be giving you advice Jacqueline, you've helped me a lot so it's nice to be able to return the favour at last. 😄 I found the same as Joan @joanboston said and yes they will slow down. I got about a 75% success rate from mine which I was happy with 👍👍

I covered mine too @pelly @awomanonabike - I’ll probably do mine soon, I think I took mine as late as end of this month so still a little bit of time. Really depends on where you are going to keep them as ideally you want a bit of root on them before it gets too cold otherwise they’ll need a heated propagator to encourage them quicker.

I’ve put mine in the house for now but I’ll pot them up once they have some roots and I was then going to put them in the greenhouse 🤔 @pelly @richard.spicer.7906

Absolutely fine. In fact, I had forgotten where I’d planted it so wasn’t looking out for it and it grew back strongly. I planted it near the house but within the same bed as a more tender salvia which hasn’t done as well. And I agree, the foliage smells like blackcurrant 😋

That’s great to hear Gaby. The only other salvia I have is sage, as I’ve lost more tender ones in the past 😢@atomica
