On the subject of footpaths, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching people walk past the #sarcococca , stop, walk back, stop, walk on, look puzzled...before eventually working out where the scent is coming from 💚😉😂
🤣🤣💘😍
Wish my nostrils worked better. I’ve one in a lot by back door. Who knows if it smells ! Love the wall. Wish you lived nearer. Meet up Sunday 16th! Lots love xx
Oh what a shame! I find it hard to imagine not being able to smell this, it’s so strong 💚 You need to take a trip up North 🚂 @clipperty
Oh that wall as well! 😍 and Blimey Claude!! Even I can smell this one!! (Well...not actually this one cause Jacq’s is a bit tooo far away!) the one on my garden! @clipperty
😂 Sorry Rachel. Completely forgot I need to tag you in every photo that includes a #drystonewall 😉 @rachelbrooks
🙄 how could you forget that?! 😉
I know 🤷♀️ @rachelbrooks

Almost open...I can smell the scent already 💗 Is there any other plant that flowers as the previous year’s berries ripen?
I took an almost identical pic yesterday!! My dogwood sometimes has both together, don’t think it s’posed to though!
I can’t think of another plant that does this. I love the combination 🖤🤍 @rachelbrooks
Jacqui just tagged you in a pic of orange trees I took back in the spring. It’s a strange thing!
It is unusual isn’t it Val. Was just imagining what this would be like if the berries were the size of oranges 😃😬😂 @valjones-hughes
Going straight out to check mine...👍🏼 it’s got tiny flowers on but they’re not open yet..I’ll take a photo when they open..
Do you need a magnifying glass or has it grown a bit 😉🙄😂 They’re not the fastest growing of plants... @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Oh yes it’s grown....not quite six foot though...😆
That’s great. It must be at least 6” by now then 😬@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
Don’t think mine has ever made the berries stage!

8 Dec 18 • My favourite #berries So black and shiny and I don’t know of any other plant that flowers at the same time as its berries ripen 🖤 #sarcococca #christmasbox
Can't wait until mine is a bit bigger Jacqueline 😍😍
It will be worth waiting for I’m sure 😍 @pelly
Absolutely 👍👍

3 Jul 2018 • I seem to be on a bit of a roll. This one took a coffee ☕️
Coffee now, I'm getting worried!! The tiny one that you gave me isn't so tiny now, it's putting on growth and seems quite happy I'm glad to report. It might be quite a while until it's as big as yours though 💚💚
Now you've had a caffeine fix, what's next?? 😂👍🏼😂👍🏼😂
😂 I’m so glad. They take a while to get going I think and I’ve never actually pruned it before, except to remove damaged branches. This was getting in the way of the front door 🙄 @pelly
I’m building up to tackling the prunus... @sieveheadsarah
😂😂👍 I'm building up to prune ceanothus. Lots of growth blocking our bay windows so need to keep in check.
☕️👍😊 @columbiariver

23 January 2018 • My latest batch of babies just waiting to be potted up 👶🌱🌿🌳
Isn’t it wonderful how easily they self seed, Jacqueline! I have loads of babies in my cold frame just waiting to go to our gardening club’s plant sale in May!! @awomanonabike
It really is Barbara and they are no bother. They just sit there waiting patiently to be lifted 😉😂 @jacaranda
Here were mine from a couple of years ago Sue @lilybee
Thank you, will keep looking! 👀 👀. @awomanonabike

23 January 2018 • I don’t have any hellebores in flower yet but I don’t care! I have my wonderful sarcococca confusa filling the air with scent. White flowers & shiny black berries too 😍 #tuesdaytreats
How lovely, can't wait for mine to grow, it's outside my front door. 😘😍
I know I can be a bit of a bore about this plant but I do love it and I’m sure you will too 😍 @pelly
Never boring Jacqueline, I’ve learned a lot from you and for that I thank you. 😍😘
Aw thank you 😘😘 @pelly
Great pic Jacqueline 👍 A plant that deserves to be shouted about 👏👏👏 spent some time yesterday trying to sum it up in text for an info sign, as everyone has started asking about the ones we have at the front of the GC, mines at the front door and doing the same as yours the scent is beautiful 😍😍
Thanks Sam. What did you come up with in the end? My original one is by our front door too 😍 One of its babies is thriving by a footpath that goes along the bottom of the garden #sharethelove 😉 @icedance
😂 had to be succinct due to lack of space on the signage template but .. a reliable evergreen. perfect for a shady corner near a door or path where you can enjoy the pretty scent. ⬆️ see you’ve got door and path covered there 👍 🙂 looking forward to mine having babies 👶 #sarcococca 😍
Short and sweet 👍👏😊 @icedance
I’ve never had the pleasure unfortunately.....but it looks interesting...👌🏼
It’s a wonderful plant. Mine is forever giving me seedlings so if you’re ever up this way Elaine, give me a shout & you are welcome to have one. I just need to pot up the latest batch as I gave my last potted up one to a delivery driver 😊🌱🌿@wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom
@awomanonabike You’re very kind thank you..😌

This is another one for smell-o-vision! The perfume is delicious & there aren't many plants I can think of that produce their flowers at the same time as the fruits mature. A brilliant small shrub for planting by the front door 😊
Very pretty
The leaves would be darker but I think I upset it by using tea leaves as a mulch (too acidic). The leaves are recovering though 😂😂
@awomanonabike I bought one of these last year, it's only small at the moment but I'm hoping for good things next winter
#christmasbox #sarcococca #berry
I'm sure it will reward you Shelley. Also, I have two, and the original one is very generous with its seeds, so all my friends have one too! #selfseed @shelleyB
@awomanonabike I didn't know they had seeds too, wow I'll look out for them next year 😊
I'm sure you could harvest the seeds but basically I just find plantlets underneath 😊😊 @shelleyB
Love this 💚 had several in one bed in my old garden - the scent is beautiful. Really should get one here 😏
Isn't it? It seems so unseasonal to get such a blast of honeysuckle-like scent at this time of year. I have other plants with #winterscent but nothing as strong as this.
Very nice 👌🏼
Just reread this thread Rachel. Did you ever get one? I have several teeny seedlings if you’d like one. I can bring it to Cambridge @rachelbrooks

First berries of the Christmas Box just beginning to colour. The amazingly scented flowers can't be far behind. Winter is coming and it's not all bad ⛄️
#christmasbox #berry #sarcococca
I suspect I post a photo of this every January. I don’t know of any other plant that smells as sweet and has berries and flowers at the same time. Definitely in my top ten #desertislandplant 💚🖤🤍 #sarcococca-confusa Another one for #smell-o-vision
The one you kindly gifted me has berries for the first time, I was delighted when I saw them late last year 😍
I don't blame you, the scent is so lovely right now 🌱
And flowers now too I hope Jane? Isn’t the scent wonderful 😍 @pelly
It is just gorgeous isn’t it Sue. And it’s January! I do wonder what insects it is trying to attract...🤔@churchfarmgarden
Yes, flowers that smell divine 😍
Aren’t they just wonderful! And you don’t even have to get up close to smell the perfume 😊 @pelly
Thank goodness, it's only about 35cm high. It's a long way to get down and even worse getting back up 😱😂😂
😂 It’ll grow eventually 🙄 @pelly
I love the scent of this! (And telling my mother in law that I like her smelly bush). Does it grow well in shade do you know?
😳😂 Yes it certainly does well in partial shade - I have two and neither of them get full sun other than early in the morning. @tom1986
