Tried to get a better picture at a different angle, it's hard cause its so SUNNY 💛 how do I break apart that cloth piece from the nursery without damaging all the roots ? My plant really needs to spread out there is so much new growth clumped together that can't get thru the larger leaves some have even rot #heartfern #heart-fern #help #sos #idontknowwhatimdoing

#help my heart ferns roots are stuck in a cloth holding it all together. I repotted it recently and haven't seen any of the crazy growth like before so today I took it out and was going to try to separate it some so the lower leaves could get light too but it's all wrapped up tight. All the stems are forced out of that small area how do I separate it ? Do I just pull it apart and hope for the best ? 🙈 #heartfern #heart-fern #sos #idontknowwhatimdoing

This is a common tactic used at nurseries to artificially restrict plant growth, cause big plants=more space, and they can hold the plants longer. Sterilize a box cutter or sharp knife and gently cut away the cloth, don’t be afraid to remove some roots, but be gentle and hope to preserve as many as you can. Some people like to say they are “biodegradable” but they can totally hurt a plant in the long run, I always remove them. You will likely find a very large amount of roots under the cloth

[ August 12 2019 ] Heart fern also needs to be moved somewhere else in the room but here's a quick update . Grew too big for both glass terrariums it's in a 1 gallon now with a dome to keep in the humidity ( maidenhair fern has a dome as well ) they both seemed to like the window alot will have to make room for them very soon

[ July 10 2019 ] was too small to begin with growth is now touching the top of the container. Very pleased it's doing well

[ July 5 2019 ] The heart fern is doing so well there are many new leaves growing hard to take a picture through the glass but you can see one in the middle there quickly getting bigger :)

New addition . Couldn't resist buying a few dayd ago it looked so cute with its heart shaped leaves. By the time I got home they were all pretty curled up. Sprayed it down and closed it up and it quickly became beautiful again. The glass enclosure it a bit too small going to be fun breaking it out but it's fine for a few more days
