I found two of these weird, long dishes at the thrift store yesterday, and thought they'd be perfect for my Adenium seedlings. The big one was sprouted in late 2018, and the small ones in mid- and late 2020. Can anyone with first-hand experience with these advise me on the big one? I tried to nip the tip at one point to encourage it to branch out, but it just started one branch right at the tip and kept growing straight up. 🤷🏻♀️ I've killed mature adeniums by pruning before, so I'm afraid ⬇️
Next time pot it in a deeper pot and when u prune the plant put fungicide on the cut part and let it dry nicely. If u leave the cut open rot can spread and don't drop water in cut part until it dries nicely
@jyotu I did all that, and still killed them in the past. I did a ton of online research til I was reasonably confident, and pruned pretty drastically towards the end of winter while the plant was still dormant. Did the fungicide thing, and didn't water. It didn't have any new growth once dormancy should have been over, and eventually just rotted and flopped over. 🤷🏻♀️ Stress, maybe? Idk, I'm pretty over adeniums. They're so fussy where I live!
I don’t have much advice, I’m learning myself. Mine were outside all winter, lost they’re leaves like they were supposed to. The tops were wrinkly, so I pruned them back. That was 3 weeks ago. I noticed a small growth from spots on the caudex. I read it would come back from the caudex. This is the Arabicum variety. I haven’t noticed any new growth on the Obesum variety , but it’s been cold here lately so time will tell.
@sunlovin thanks! I've had both obesum and arabicum, and it seemed like arabicum was less fussy. I did some research at the time and iirc arabicum only comes with red or pink single flowers, and any of the more interesting flowers are obesum varieties. Not sure if that's true or not. 🤷🏻♀️ Mine did the same dieback at the tips, but then never bounced back after I trimmed it. Coincidence probably. 😣
U can check my posts how i do it. I uproot and prune in mid winter then dry and hang properly. When the atmosphere starts to be warm then i repot them.
