I'm mostly into cacti, aloes, and other heat tolerant succulents, and more recently hoyas and some tropicals. Phoenix, AZ. USDA zone 9b, heat zone 11.

New addition! It came today in the mail. It's been on my wishlist for ages, so when I found one on eBay for $23 I had to grab it. @philstalder if you're interested the seller has more: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Eulychnia-castanea-fa-varispiralis-cactus-Succulent-Garden-plants-high-5-8cm/164783107528 It's the cheapest I've ever seen them! Shipping is free and took about a month.

Seriously? Couldn’t you keep that to yourself. Lmao. Looks like I’ll have to come up with $23 and hope for the best. Thanks 😊

Haha, sorry @philstalder !! 😅 I figured it's way better than the $150 or whatever you said your local place was asking for them! If you feel like doubling the budget then another eBay seller has ones that are an inch or two taller.

Oh ok, I didn’t know they were so expensive or even that I posted them or saw them before. Plants are always a blur with me, I see so many. Anyway placed my order already from your link. I don’t mess around. Haha 😆

🤣🤣🤣 Oh man! I was going to say if you'd forgotten about it then scrub this one from your memory and forget I'd mentioned it! But if the deed's done then that's that! 😂 Hopefully you won't be disappointed. I was pleased enough with mine that I already went and bought a few more things from the same seller. They've got some really nice finds! @philstalder

Thanks. I have to stop. Still have about 10 plants I have to pot and it’s getting hot already. Never mind I still need to fertilize, clean up, paint, do some repairs and do some heavy work with my tropicals before summer. I have wonderful gardeners that help me but it’s really getting out of hand already. I think 10 years from now I will be one of those houses that people drive by and comment about being overgrown, run down and neglected with an eccentric old man living there. Lol 😂

@philstalder I'm trying to cut down as well, but every time I start to get a handle on it I'll have a day of weakness and go on a plant buying spree (like I did today, and ordered about a dozen new things). 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don't have a ton of stuff in the ground, so my house won't ever turn into an overgrown jungle, but the potted stuff is definitely overwhelming, and people already do comment on my plant hoarding when they see it. 😅

Omg I am exactly the same. 90% in pots. I’m curious what people’s reaction will be if I have them over. No ones been here the whole time since covid except me. Every inch of space is taken. Now that it’s spring I’m seeing my hard work and buying all these plants is turning into something magical. At least for me. Big concern is I have 2 trips booked. One in May for 5 days and one in July for 5 days. I have no idea what to do with the watering situation since it’s very specific. @beatnikcrab

@philstalder I haven't had anyone over since Covid either, but I've actually improved the plant situation in the past year, reclaiming some of the outdoor living spaces from the plants with some more effective shelving. I'm sure your succulents would be fine for 5 days.. Any chance you could group the stuff that will need water, and then ask a neighbor to come do it? Or hire a plantsitter? Or set up an automatic system for them?

Not worried about the succulents and I have an app on my phone for the lawn and rose bushes to water. It’s the tropicals that need water every day and raised beds. My neighbor asked me for a list of instructions last time I traveled but my collection is about 3 times bigger now. I guess I’ll see what happens and hope it’s not crazy hot. Fingers crossed 🤞

Hmm, I don't know how big your tropical collection is, but what's worked best for me in the past was simplifying care instructions as much as possible and color coding plants with similar needs with sticky notes or landscape flags. Like everything that needs water daily gets a blue flag, every 3 days gets an orange flag, for example. Makes it a lot easier on the sitter and eliminates any ambiguity. But at some point you do have to just leave it up to fate and hope for the best. 🤷🏻‍♀️
