Mature #seed #cones with typical bright red berry-like cover called an aril. We ate it when I was a kid. Not that it was a delicacy. It’s very sweet, true. But more important was for us to try it because the seed inside is poisonous and must be spit out.🤢 #irishyew #taxus
Great photo. You dare devils! Did you know that the bark of the Pacific and the European Yews are the source of paclitaxel and docetaxel respectively - chemotherapy drugs used in the treatment of breast cancer?
Thank you very much Jacqueline! You know childhood. Everything forbidden is very tempting. I had no idea of the content of these substances. Very interesting information, thanks! Is this just in the bark or in the red pack of the seeds too? @awomanonabike
I have never consumed too much of them, if I remember. It was more a matter of “honor”. When the others ate it, I had to eat too. And also forbidden magic 😉. @alan1111
#irishyew immature #seed #cones I have group of five of these columnar shaped shrubs in my garden as a vertical element in front of the fence. #taxus #foliage

Thank you very much Laura! When I recall everything we did as children, it is small miracle that we have survived without any harm😉. @columbiariver
