Complete novice! I inherited the garden when I got my house, it’s my first garden! Keen to learn!

Hello 👋🏻 please can anyone let me know if this leaking sap stuff is a problem? Is it a pest or caused by a pest? Most of the (not many in total) plums on the tree are like this. I cut one open and there was brown plum flesh going away from the ‘leak’ but couldn’t see anything living! #plums #plum-victoria #plum-problem #pest-id

It did finally fruit; not loads by any means but a few more to come left on the tree! ☺️ and I’ve sampled one and it’s delicious, is it because it’s my own?

They look fabulous! I'm sure they are tasty! To anyone. You must love your plum tree?!

Yes it’s lovely Altho it hadn’t had much fruit on and didn’t flower so I wasn’t sure what I would get from it! I must admit I didn’t plant it, it was here when I moved in, and it in an awkward place so I am considering sacrificing it 😱

I understand. You could sacrifice it, then buy your own plum tree, if you want to, and plant it in the ideal spot! @bentobox

@kamaki maybe, it is currently blocking what could be a lovely rockery behind. There are two plum trees, the other didn’t fruit at all, not sure if there needs to be two to produce fruit. I’m weighing up my options anyway. Altho it has helped itself by producing such delicious fruit!

I see. I think you may be right, a male and female variety of tree, to help the flowers pollenate and so produce fruit, I think that's it anyway.. The rockery sounds like a great idea!

If you Iive in a city there's usually another fruiting tree nearby to pollinate so you don't need two. Having said that, maybe you can design a rockery around the tree?

Thanks @ublaszko it’s north of the city really but not in the middle of nowhere so another might not be far away! I could work around them but they’re just in a bit of an awkward place!

This is a plum tree in my garden, I only got ONE Plum last year.I don’t know the variety, the plum last year was purpley red! I don’t know if it needs pollinating. I don’t know how or when to prune. The branches seem to weigh themselves down&it isn’t very tree shaped... also, photos to follow but there are eggs under some leaves&i have so far spotted about 5 mini plums. Can anyone advise what I should do &how to maintain etc? Oh and no blossom! TIA! #plum #pruning #advice #tree #helpplease 😱

I can't quite judge the size but it may be a little young to produce lots of plums yet.

@bamels thank you! It isn’t a massive tree but I don’t know how old as it was here when I moved in. I think I’ll have to try and get rid of the pests somehow and see what fruit I get this year ☺️ it’s quite exciting seeing all the things changing in the garden

I found some good organic pest spray on Amazon a couple of years ago. Fingers crossed for you.

Think I crossed over with your comment- thanks I’ll have a look for something similar. I’ve just spent 5 mins watching a load of sparrows in the tree and they seem to like something, not sure if it isn’t the aphids so maybe they’ll sort them out :) hopefully not the plums 😂 @bamels
