This was supposed to be a variety of pampas grass called Pygmy but it's now about 12 feet high and about 6 feet in diameter! Will probably try and dig it out sometime this year. Before I do, does anyone have ideas on how to reduce it in size?
You can reduce it physically by cutting it down & cutting chunks off its root system. Unfortunately if is plain pampas it will still re grow to same size. Best advice if it is too big. Remove & try again using 'pumila' from different nursery. Or use miscanthus instead.

Thank you @robbiec I think removal will be my best option.
