My first #sweetpea #antiquefantasy flowers. Love the smell. Can’t wait for more to open so I can pick some for the house.

@bluefox23 pick those ones anyway. Picking them will stimulate more for next time. If those go to seed in the meantime then flowering stops.

These are really early - when will they flower?

@sharonhayden they’ll flower next spring/summer. The ones I’ve got flowering now were ones I sowed last August. These will stay inside till January at the latest but then I’ll put them under a plastic bottle cloche outside which slows their growth. Worked well this year so hoping it works this year.

I would assume so @Mikekally I kept mine inside as I had to take my plastic greenhouse down but I put them outside in the January with a bottle cloche on and they coped fine so a greenhouse should be ok.

Might try your variety next year. The variety that I had (I think it was Bouquet mixed) was pretty and delicate but the scent was not strong enough and kinda weird. Not what I remembered sweet peas to supposed to smell like.

Hi @bluefox23. Any advice on growing these. Mine are yet to flower. Thanks.

Depends what kind of advice you need eg at what stage of growing. I started these last August and then kept some inside over winter and others outside under plastic bottles. I planted them out in mid spring and have been trying to support them. I’ve kept them well watered but not water logged and they’ve fallen over twice in the wind! I need to cut off some of the tendrils as they’re clinging onto some of the flowers and pulling them down! And I think I need to add higher supports! @markdavidso

That’s fantastic. I planted mine out as seeds in April - they’re just about 3 inches high now, I think I heard a rumour that you need to cut every other leaf off to promote flower growth? Lol 🌸💚

@markdavidson59 I pinched mine out early on but not done anything specific like that. I planted mine out when they were about 5-6 inches I think and then they flew upwards. They didn’t start flowering until they were probably about a metre tall, I reckon.

#stormdamage Hadn’t realised it was going to be so windy today. Blew over my pots with #sweetpea in and then the wind broke off the top of one of them. 😢 so I’ve put the #antiquefantasy flowers it had on in a vase and at least I get to enjoy them and their gorgeous scent. 08/06/19

@ublaszko I’m pleased they’re doing well for you and I’m looking forward to my flowers. The bottom stems of mine are not as strong as the ones that have developed since I planted it out but they are obviously coping!! I’m glad the wind and rain aren’t seeming to cause a problem for them.

My sweet peas are picking up! Counted 3 decent plants yesterday, 2 still look straggly. I noticed though that even when bottom part looks a bit rubbish it can still produce nice strong growth so not so worried about my straggly/spindly ones. One of them has shot up so it might not be long till the first flower 😆😆😆

I'm actually not going to see the flowers after all 😭 We viewed another house for rent this morning and we've decided to move in a month. 🎉🎉🎉 I'm bringing most of my plants with me but sweet peas do not like transplanting and they're only annuals so it's not worth it. 😣

😂😂 Apparently, you can keep them outside in a sheltered spot once the seedlings are established but perhaps wait until mid-April before planting them in their final spot.

Yeah I will take them out of bottle this weekend or next and stake them before I put my obelisk up for them. @ublaszko
