Developing my knowledge all the time. I love growing plants: barely any space on my windowsills, nor on my patio as it's full of pots. #renting.

@bluefox23 You need to spray it as it’s got black spot. I would cut it back and spray it. Either burn or bag up the leaves as it spreads. Cutting it will boost it up into growing. Plenty of manure or feed. 😊👍🏼

Can you see any buds forming on those woody old stems at the base? I remembered your question whether or not you should prune it. You could cut back those old unproductive stems but perhaps wait another couple of weeks to see if they produce any new stems/foliage. They look pretty dead though so if you cut those back you might get new stems replacing them from thr base 😚😚

Btw, I like your berberis in the background 😍

6w
comment
bluefox23

Yeah I will probably prune those as they were ‘dead’ when I bought it last year. #oh it’s my azalea that has got the ‘red’ leaves behind it! It seems to do that over winter!! @ublaszko

So nice 😍😍😍 I thought it was berberis but was surprised it kept the leaves. I'm thinking of getting an azalea this year.

#newgrowth #gardenqueen #buxombeauty #rose Just enjoyed time in the garden finding new growth on its way! When should I prune this or is it too late now it’s growing again? #advice Glorious day! 😊 23/02/19 #gardenqueenrose

I pruned my roses today. I think it's ok to prune them anytime until mid-April ☺ Still not sure if I took off enough growth though.

6w

Just looked back at the pics and it's a new rose (only planted last year). I would not prune it at all this year or the next as newly planted roses take up to 3 years to establish and the top growth feeds the roots. I didn't know that when I first planted a bush rose but the following year I left it unpruned and it had much better blooms and more of them. Instead of pruning, mulch it with organic compost/manure and feed it with slow - release fertiliser.

6w

bluefox23

That makes sense. I was thinking it wasn't very bushy yet and didn't want to cut off the new growth!! I'll leave it be then pruning wise. 👍🏼 @ublaszko

In the first year, they mostly just establish the roots, then in the second year they start to produce new stems growing from the base and a handful of flowers, and in the third year they really take off. ☺

I think fungus attack

6w
comment
bluefox23

@jyotu will the plant be ok? Is it just the bud that's affected by it do you think?

6w
comment
cosmicveggie

It could be to do with all that rain we had and then all the heat again? The leaves look healthy so I don’t think it’s fungus. If the inner petals look ok it could be a mild case of Rose Balling https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/solve-problems/rose-bloom-balling/ 😊

6w
comment
bluefox23

@cosmicveggie I think you might be right. Do you think I should just cut the bud off?

6w
comment
cosmicveggie

Yes there’s no benefit to keeping it on, it won’t open properly, let the Rose put effort into clean and new growth 😊

6w

bluefox23

Ok thanks @cosmicveggie 👍🏼😊

6w

richard.spicer.7906

Yes, I would agree with this. Happens when it rains and then get a lot of heat, causes the petals to ‘glue’ together almost and then it struggles to open 😞

6w

bluefox23

Thanks @richard.spicer.7906 I will chop it off when I water plants in a bit. 😊

New #gardenqueen flower opening. Is that water damage from tap water, or weather conditions on the petals? 31/07/18 #buxombeauty #gardenqueenrose #rose

Why is this rose taking so long to open? Is it natural. To me the outside leaves are going to fall off before the middle has opened. It doesn't look like the lovely blooms I've seen by other people!! 🤷‍♀️😞 #buxombeauty #gardenqueenrose #rose
