Just when I was thinking of digging up this pot of zinnias to plant some bulbs, one of the buds is opening!! And it's a pink 💕🌸 one!! I've been waiting all summer for a pink one!! As far as I know Elaine, they are annuals so trying to collect seeds but I don't seem to be a very good seed catcher!! I've really enjoyed the few flowers that I've had this year so want some more next year for definite! 😊 @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom I had so many seedlings I gave some to my mum and she's had more of them bloom than I did! Typical! 🙄

Peekaboo 😂😂 That's a promise of a gorgeous flower 😍 I had some buds on mine but the weather's already turned cold and petals even on new flowers looked tatty.

A couple of others that had buds on gave in during the bad weather and I thought this one had too but no, it was determined! Don't think it will be a looker though, petals look tatty on it already but hoping it gets a few days to flower so I can see the colour!! @ublaszko 😊.

Mine kept drying out during windy weather and I didn't have the time to keep watering them so I send them off to compost bin 😁

Just double checked on all of them, and some of them, that I thought had had it, are growing new leaves and looking healthier at the top than the bottom!! 🙄 I'll give them a bit longer!! @ublaszko

That's great news! Annuals are funny like that. My cornflowers are still going strong and so are night-scented phlox. My california poppies have been disappointing as only two flowers so far. But hot weather annuals like zinnias and cerinthes have finished already. There were still some flowers on them but looked dreadful.

Oh no still waiting, Urszula? 😬 are they starting to open? I thought these would be fully open today but still not there yet. They certainly seem to be slow developers. But my first flower is still open so at least they are lasting a while once they finally do open up!! @ublaszko

One has a big flowerbud but the other ones aren't even showing signs of flowerbuds 😅 It was growing fast in the heatwave but it's not so sunny anymore. We've had lots of rain in the past 2 weeks and nights are getting cold. I don't mind how long they take as long as they flower. At least I will have some bright colour in autumn 😉 To be fair, I didn't even sow them until 20th May.

I saw a flowerbud on mine this morning so not long now. Mine is a hot pink one called 'Purple Prince'.

Just scrolled back through your zinnias pics and saw it took 2 weeks to open the bud 😅😭

They are slow. I sowed cornflowers, nigellas, poached egg flowers and cerinthes at the same time and they all started flowering already. Still waiting for zinnias, California poppies and night scented phlox.

Yeah I’m going to try and collect seeds from the few flowers I get to try next year. Will buy some if not, as I think they look pretty, although a bit slow to grow!!! About 4 months to get to this point!!! 😯 hope yours flower soon! @ublaszko

I got mine with a garden magazine. I wouldn't try them otherwise as I sowed them last year and the seedlings didn't put on much growth and eventually got eaten by snails. They were sown outdoor in pots. This year I started them indoors under cover of cling film and they're 2.5 months now. I only started them 20th May but hopefully I won't have to wait another month and a half! 😨😅 I still have leftover seeds I bought this year but I think it's better to sow fresh seeds so I'll try collecting 👍

I only have 3 zinnias in total 😂😂😂 I sowed a few seeds as part of my annual flower mix in a pot but I thinned them out as I expected them to be get much bigger.
