#beetroots Any suggestion on how to rid my plant of the pest doing this? My garlic/pepper spray doesn't seem to be working. @brightcolours

Have you looked closely at the underside of the leaves? Is it caterpillars or snails/slugs/earwigs?

Caterpillars. I picked 3 off the plant. But I thought garlic spray deters them from eating the plant, I guess I was wrong. @brightcolours

@buzzygems I love beet greens as much as I love the bottoms. I find that so does everything else. If I don’t harvest the leaves when they are young I get the same problem. I sprayed so much garlic on mine I smelled like a garlic bulb after I ate the leaves. I think the bugs like garlic also. At least on their beet greens. Maybe next year I’ll try pepper spray made from my Piri Piri Pepper that was brought back from Africa to me from a dear friend who travels through Africa. AKA Birds Eye 🌶

#Beets I planted this two months ago and this is all I see. I added manure, water the plant, don't know why it's not growing or what I am doing wrong. Any suggestion please?

@buzzygems I looked up your weather. My guess is way to hot for beets. Beets prefer cool temp. Germinate when soil reaches 50F. It would be interesting to see some of your hypertufa. Making your own I’m sure you get very creative. Fun to talk and read about someone so far away. I’d love to live by the ocean but I could not bare the traffic from what I see on Google. Happy New Year to you. Tom.

@tkept Actually I discovered that the beets wasn't getting enough sunlight and I moved it, surprisingly, it thrived. That was my first time of planting beets. I love making hypertufa, it's so interesting! There are some parts of Nigeria with less traffic and the Federal capital is one of them, it's a beautiful place too. Happy New Year sir.

@buzzygems Glad you found out your beet problem. It’s so nice to have a GT friend on the other side of the world. It looks very pretty. Right now anything would look pretty as I’m buried in snow and ice. But in the summer I would not trade it for anything. But this time of year Nigeria looks fantastic to me. I hope you keep in touch.
