Moved in to a lovely little renovated cottage in 2013, with the garden all mud.... And limited if any, gardening experience!

#phormium #advice I removed three phormium from this border. I had no idea how big they grow. I now have lots of spare phormium to use. How fast does it grow? Should I use it or not is the question, or will I live to regret it. I have lots of smaller split pieces now. Seems a waste not to.. 😕 very unsure so any insight would be most helpful, thank you

They can grow large relatively quickly and can swamp other plants in the vicinity so unless your garden is large and you don't mind this, maybe the best thing to do would be to give the other bits away. To give you some idea, this variety could grow to be about 2m tall and maybe the same wide... You can trim off outer leaves so you have a more erect plant if you wished.

@justin Oh my goodness! that means it'd be really silly to have too much doesn't it. Maybe good for a corner? I'm glad I hesitated. Thank you so much for wonderful advice

I've never grown it but just going on comments in various people's recent posts. They're obviously a good structural plant if you've got the room for it.

Mine has grown so fast and only been in 3 years. Wonderful as it is I've trimmed mine hard twice already. 😌 You really do need a lot of space for this plant.
