I spy a bud! This prairie dock plant will start blooming soon! I had to hold my phone as high as I could to get this picture. This plant is easily 6-7 feet tall by now. @emch thought you’d want to see! #prairiedock #bloom #bud #anticipation

Around 7 foot tall now. You can see the top of the fence I put up for support, it’s about 3-3.5 feet tall. #prairiedock #native #Tennessee #tennesseenative

I cannot wait to see the flowers. This looks nothing like my own Prairie Dock...

@emch they are in the sunflower family!

Well mine arent't!

My Jurassic Park plant! It gets at least 10 feet tall and the leaves are MASSIVE. It’s already around 5 feet. You can’t even see the fence behind it. #prairiedock #tall #native #tennesseenative #big #jurrasicparkplant

@columbiariver thank you!! It really is! Definitely one of my favorites and lovely sunflower-ish blooms.

Hoping to see some flower stalks soon. #prairiedock #bigfoliage

I'm not familiar with this plant but that looks like a big boy!

@jmlincoln it is a big boy!! It’s native to Tennessee and has flowers similar to sunflowers. In the same family. It reminds me of something from Jurassic Park! 🦕🦖

Ha! Very cool! Keep us posted on this, I'd love to see it flowering

@jmlincoln since I posted this photo, it’s grown at least a few feet! See updated pics!

This little bumblebee was stunned by the rain and took some relief on this #prairiedock bloom. Prairie dock is a native Tennessee flower in the sunflower family. See the little sweat bee up there too?? #sunflowerfamily #bee #smallisbeautiful #yellow #tennesseenative #native #macro

No rain here, nothing more than a sprinkling

Great capture! Bees are the best 🐝

@lesliecole49 it’s from a couple days ago. 😊 @onefoxtwofoxx I agree!!! Thanks!

Thank you all!!!

This is prairie dock. It gets 7-8 feet tall, easily. It has sunflower type blooms. It is native to Tennessee and the birds, bees, and butterflies love it. My landlord LOATHES it and wants me to chop it down. I refuse. In fact, he wants me to chop all my flowers down. I am not the best at weeding the flower beds all the time, I’m usually pretty busy during the school year. But how grumpy can a person be to want ALL the flowers cut down in the middle of blooming season?!
He must be a very sad person with no soul. 🙁
@jacaranda right??? I could not believe my ears.
You have to feel sorry for people who have no appreciation for flowers and nature. 😢
You're landscaping his place at your own expense, and he's complaining!?!?
@emch @jacaranda I have rented this home for the last 9 years. My flowers have been growing for most of that. Mark my words, as soon as I move out, he will tear it all out and mow it down. :(
