@charlotte Two days full on and more to come, if I can get out of bed (back pain at the moment!) But really pleased that I managed to re-pot at least some of the flowers. I think I’ve overdone it with 🌱 this year. I don’t even think there’s enough room in the garden to plant them all! 😀

#cosmos #purity has been re-potted 🌱🪴✨It was still so cold outside. But flowers in the garden don’t seem to mind, they’re on their own schedule.

I’m sure most of you are miles ahead but better late than never! This year I am attempting: Cosmos Purity & Dazzler, Rudbekia, and veggies + herbs (cucumber, hot pepper, chives, parsley, Thyme de Provence, onion)… Let the experimentation begin! How are you all getting on? 😍#gyo #growing-food #growing-veggies #seed-sowing

Lots to look forward to there! So far I'm growing from seed - French Marigolds, Rudbeckia Cherry Brandy & Chocolate Orange, Sunflowers and Nasturtiums 😃

@anges Sounds great! Rudbekias are awesome. Do you have any tips on growing sunflowers? Mine haven’t grown after 2 years of attempts so taking a break this year. Nasturtiums seem to grow well when sawn directly in the soil in my area, which is very lucky. I hope to get them again this year, planted the seeds 2 weeks ago in situ. Fingers crossed for your plants, it will be great to see them in photos over the summer x

I feel like sunflowers are a bit of an effort. I grow them indoors at first, keep potting them on til they're fairly decent size and then plant them out where I want them to flower. They need staking aswell! 🙄 But I think they're worth the effort. I'm going to sow a few seeds outside too and see if they survive the slugs and snails 🐌 😅

The time has come!! *Drumrolls* On this spring’s menu, I planted: Cosmos Purity and Dazzler as they are gorgeous and reliable, Ox eye daisies, Sunflowers, and vegetables (red bell peppers, 🧅, and herbs - parsley, thyme, oregano. Trying to keep it simple this year after having planted too many sortiments last year and only few worthwhile... Good luck to all seed growers and remember to use peat- free compost! 🌸 🐝 🦋 💕 #seed #grow-your-own

😔 Cosmos & Nasturtiums grown from seed have been completely devoured by black #aphids in the 5 weeks in which we have been away.. Now I have a proper infestation in the garden and haven’t got a clue how to tackle it. Has anyone got any organic remedy that doesn’t harm other beneficial insects, that I may be able to use against these monsters? #advice #aphids #pestcontrol-aphids #sadnow

I had a really big problem too literally over night. So I put on my gardening gloves and went through every stem and wiped them off. Then I went around with a spray of water and washing up liquid and sprayed those I missed. Seems to be under control. ☺️

I remember my nan using a very weak solution of washing up liquid and water as she could never afford commercial fluids... Have to say it worked so that's what I use now xxx

@hayleyaj I did the same a few times but the next day they’re back! (I didn’t use washing liquid) They seem to multiply faster than I am able to wipe by hand. 😔 I’ll keep trying. Thanks! X

Blast off most with water but rub the rest off. They'll soon get the message. Found a plant out front on Sunday that was bent double with the shear volume of them. Soon rubbed them all off and blasted to be sure 😁

The washing up liquid dries the insects out and kills them but you need to be careful to avoid spraying in full sun as it can scorch the leaves and harm wildlife. Best to do it early in the morning or late in the evening when bees and butterflies are least active. ☺

@ublaszko But if bees and butterflies come in contact with the plant on the day when it was sprayed with the washing liquid, wouldn’t that cause harm?

6w

ublaszko

I don't think it harms them as long as they don't get sprayed with the lot and the plant itself would dry out by then. I read even insecticides are ok to spray in the garden as long as you avoid the times when pollinators are active.

@ublaszko Insecticides should not be used on plants in flower, I’ve read on the RHS website.
