#sunflowers of different kinds (Red, Tall, Mexican) #Cosmos I wouldn’t miss it for the world, #hollyhocks and #petunias for the hanging basket, #wild-bergamot for the very first time 🤞

Very nice, I loved your job

All coming along very nicely, good growing space.

Sunflowers #grown-from-seed Sadly, few survived, I started them too early, kept them too long initially in the house, and by the time I moved them out they were too leggy and fragile. Next year, start seeds indoors mid March, move to greenhouse beginning of April and as possible (end of April) move outside. 😢 Sad that only 4-5 plants survived from this year’s. #lessonslearnt

It's not to late to star another batch

@alan1111 I planted the remaining seeds directly in the soil, I’ll try my luck this way.

🤞 You'll have some success

@alan1111 🙂thank you!

Seems like the right time to plant some of the #sunflowers out after doing a bit of tidying up. Backache, here I come. But phew, that’s done! #goodforthesoul #goodforpollinators #stayinghome #staysafe

I'm growing sunflowers for the first time . They are indoors but huge . Is it safe to plant them outside soon ?

@charlotte Mine didn’t look very happy in the greenhouse anymore which is why I decided to move them out. Where do you live, how many degrees are during the day/night? I live in Reading and the weather is now reasonably mild, 16-20 degrees during the day, 5-8 degrees during the night. I think last year I took them out around the same time or earlier. Slugs can be problematic when sunflowers are moved out so worth keeping an eye, it helps that it’s not very rainy these days.

@charlotte If you live somewhere reasonably warm you could try taking at least some of them out (I used bamboo canes to support them as it’s quite windy at times). As far are mine were concerned, they were getting quite large and roots too big for the pots so I felt they’d be happier outside. X

I'm in Norfolk. Cold winds at the moment but no sign of any imminent frosts. Think I'll put mine outside soon.

@charlotte Avoid windy days! I planted mine just before some windy days and they struggled a bit.. Hopefully they’ll be fine 🤞 Goodluck with yours!

#sunflowers have been supported with chopsticks! I hope that helps them, they seem to be growing too fast!

Looking good Roxanna, you could pop them outside during the day in a sunny spot out of too much wind 🌻🌻. I really need to start my sunflower seeds 😀

@sieveheadsarah I was thinking to start moving them all into the unheated greenhouse for the next few weeks, like I did in the previous years. Hopefully my bad back will allow me to clean up the greenhouse this weekend ..

Oh yes, they’ll love that, I hope your back gets better soon!!

@sieveheadsarah Thank you! 🌸
