This is my favourite tree too. A tree with an amazing history with fossils found dating back to 270 million years, known as the living fossil tree. Under the rule of Mao Zedong in China, the trees were banned from export. The ban was eased after his death in 1976.
When I lived in Muswell Hill in N.London in the 60s and 70s, there was an ancient ginkgo outside my window that had come from China before the Mao's ban. I visit that tree every time I return to UK.
