Hi everyone. I'm a keen "yardener" and have 6 acres in FNQ. I am working towards a self sufficient kind of life but still love my tropical plants too

I'm a newbie with azaleas and I'm about to move a huge one. Any advice is appreciated

When are you moving it? How large is it?

Dig a trench around the whole plant. Water well. Have a large tarpaulin ready with a wet hessian bag laid on top. Lift the whole plant onto the hessian bag. Water well with a seaweed solution.

I did move a couple once years ago but not one this big

I would definitely prune one that large to reduce transplant shock. You'll lose some flowers but it increases your chance of success. Have you dug and prepared the new hole?

No but I thought I'd start off soaking it, then digging the hole so I can take it straight over

It's not in flower as I think it's a bit shady there for it. It gets a couple of hours in the morning but that's it

The hard thing will be keeping as much of the root ball intact as possible. Good luck! 😊

To get someone's attention eg to reply or ask a Q or say thanks, you need to put an @ in front of their name so they get a notification eg @BrightColours Because this is your post you get a notification every time someone likes or comments, regardless of whether they tag you or not. 😊
