Mystery solved thanks to @emch and this little guy. Looks like a plum to me! This is the only one that had some color before hitting the ground. Very little fruit left on the branches now.

It is a plum tree @emch - thank you. But nothing ever ripened and I have no idea what kind it is. Working on fertilizing and hopeful for next year.
