A worrying sight yesterday to see the condition of this young elm tree, its leaves are curling and some have turned yellow due to lack of rain. It's one of four of a disease resistant strain we planted many years ago to replace the huge elms which had died of Dutch Elm Disease so would be devastated to lose it. Will try and take some cans of water to it today 💦🌳🤞 #foliagefriday
So very sad….hope with a little TLC it will revive 🤞
It's the best shape of the four Angela so yes, sad to see it in distress, will get back down there today with some water 💦 @italydiva
There’s lots of trees where i am that have either dropped all the leaves or they are brown and crispy 😐
Hopefully it's just their way of coping with it Christine 🤞🌳 @vegandmore
The bypass out of my town is lined with trees and so many of them are shedding leaves. It's a sorry sight but hopefully you are right and they are trying to relieve some of the stress. I hope yours survives 🤞
@churchfarmgarden Hi Sue, clear away grass around the base of the tree to at least 1mt diameter. Grass will take any moisture going before the tree can get to it. Then give good mulch with whatever you have and water well. If you can get water onto the foliage as well even better.
All the trees even conifers are suffering here Sue already looks like autumn 🍂 🫤
Good points Bob we have plenty of cow manure I shall mulch it with that 👍 @bobbyball
@churchfarmgarden Hi Sue no problem, make sure the cow manure is well rotted so as not to scorch the roots and don't put it right up against the stem. Hope it works!👍
Oh yes it's very well rotted Bob 😂🐂 @bobbyball

Elm (unknown variety). When we came here 40 years ago our field hedges contained the dead remains of ancient English elms and they gradually all blew down in winter storms. When a few years ago we heard of Dutch Elm Disease resistant elms for release we bought 4 and this is the best, although they have all done well. Afraid I don't know the variety but suspect it's the same as HRH The Prince of Wales planted at Highgrove around the same time 🌳 #foliagefriday
Have you been to Highgrove? I was ready to go May 1 but then covid..rescheduled for next spring 2021 🤞looks like an amazing garden
No @gorgeousgarden I would love to, I think you have to get tickets well in advance don't you?
@churchfarmgarden yes a few weeks before for security. I'm excited to see the stump garden there
Yes I remember seeing them build that on TV Julie @gorgeousgarden
We planted four elm trees some years ago - sadly only half have thrived - we cut this one down last weekend ☹️ #fungusfriday
#fungusamongus
Hopefully you kept the wood 🪵
Oh . Did they get a disease 😳
I think the photo is honey fungus, not sure if it's what killed it or if it got into it once it was dead. Shame as it was a decent size. We kept the trunk and biggest branches for a project 🌳 @emch @vegandmore @charlotte
That’s sad 😔
It was Julie, when we first came here you could still see the big old skeleton trees and we wanted to try and replace a few. They were Dutch Elm Disease resistant but it's a shame two have died of other things @juliesgarden
😢.. hate seeing trees die
Always sad… 😔
