Purchased 2 curly Bonnie spider plant babies. Seller suggested propagating them in water until the roots reach a couple of inches to plant, which I’m doing. I am a beginner & have never done this before- are these nubs (especially the brown one)normal? How big should I be waiting for them to get? When it’s time to plant- Will they do better together in one pot, or separate? #curly-spider-plant #spiderplant #propagation
I would not let them get too long because then they are more brittle and will not do so well in the soil. I got a big bonnie from Lowe's on discount last year but I watered way too much... 😭 but I now know what NOT to do for the future!
These are the easiest plants to root in water. Once the little roots reach 3/4" to an inch they can be planted. Plant them all in one pot . It will look fuller that way and they will have spider babies once they are a bit crowded.
@lesliecole49 Thank you so much for your help! I have a question I’m hoping you can help me with— I changed the water this evening and one of the leaves was fully off from one of the babies even though it looks perfectly healthy, and a few of the other leaf tips are brown. Should I be doing -or not doing- anything about this?
You're worrying about it too much! 😅 You don't need to change the water unless it gets ugly, just add a bit more to keep up with evaporation. The fallen leaf may have been under water and rotted or it may have been loose to begin. I just stick my babies in a shot glass of water and keep water in it. Put these in a smaller vessel and take the plastic off. I have had one on my kitchen window for probly months. I'll tag you in a picture soon.
Oh, and the brown tips are probly due to the chemicals in the water. My mom used to keep a pitcher of water on the counter to release the chemicals but I dont, I just water them.

Any advice?? Received this spider plant pretty beat up via ups.Had fallen out of the 6" pot & was limp/wilted w/ the majority of the leaves bent/severed.I had to seperate some of the smaller rooted sprouts & put them in smaller pots b/c they're all just so weak & the pot it came in seemed crowded.I put new soil, watered w/ spring water, gave each plant food & had to prune a LOT :(Left side pics are before- right is after.. Anything more i can do? It seems hopeless.. #RIP #fail #dead #rootrot

@cowsandcrochet I think you've done all you can do. They are very hardy plants and should bounce back. Don't overwater and don't keep it in direct sunlight. Indirect or filtered thru a sheer curtain. They tend to scorch if in bright direct sunlight. Welcome to Gardentags. This is a fun friendly place with so many knowledgeable people from all over the world
I have literally cut my spider plants ALL the way back to the dirt and they grew back lush and beautiful. Now the one I was so proud of is looking like crap again and I'm thinking about doing a chop chop.
This #spiderplant was part of the baby trio that just died. Shortly after, I noticed 'momma' plant turning more & more brown.Took it all out & inspected roots- #rootrot .As I tried to check the roots, the stems & leaves you see in the photo just "melted" off the root nubs. There was nothing left but the roots/nubs then. half of the roots were pure mush.Seller had no return policy, which is my fault for taking the chance.but I made sure to review & warn potential buyers. 😔🌱
