@ublaszko when it was in a pot it was in ericaceous soil but it got too big for the pot so put in the ground. Could too much sunlight do it or should I dig it up and plant somewhere else and mix plenty of ericaceous soil in?
Yes, it could be sunburn but I reckon it's the soil. They really do need low soil pH same as rhododendrons. I think it's worth moving it to a shadier spot and adding plenty of ericaceous compost at the bottom of the planting hole ☺

Looks like leaf chlorosis. Could be either iron deficiency or pH level too high. Is it growing in ericaceous soil? ☺
