Changing by the day .
Looks great in front of the fence
@edward thanks Edward. The fence was green in the spring, and it didn't stand out well at all. Painted it the darker colour , and bingo 🤗
It's going to be stunning David 👍👍
@icedance thanks to your good #advice Sam. It's been the best it's ever been this year 😊
Aaw that's so good to hear David 🙂 I took a Clematis out of a pot yesterday the root ball was massive !!! So took my own advice and root trimmed so I could fit it into the border .. fingers crossed I see new shoots in spring 🤞🌱

Brilliant Dave 👍👍👍
Looks Amazing Dave @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co 👌
@jadojado29 I'm really pleased with it Suzie, a bit nervous cutting the roots back in the winter , but seems to have done it the world of good. Sam @icedance said it would do it good and she was spot on .great #advice .
Such good news Dave it looks amazing pleased and somewhat relieved 😌 it worked 🙏
Great advice Sam @icedance looking great Dave 👌😍
Lovely, please tell me about the root cutting in winter please @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co sounds interesting 😀😀
@sieveheadsarah hi Sarah, you basically wait until jan/Feb when the tree is dormant, lift it from the pot and quietly cut back the outer roots, clear off the old compost and repot it. I used a mixture of ericaceous compost and John innes no 3. It promotes fresh growth, and has worked brilliantly.
Fab, thanks @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co I'll do my best to remember to do that to mine in Jan/Feb.
@sieveheadsarah I'd only do it if you want to keep it in the same size pot Sarah. The one I've got I've had for 15 years and wasn't cheap when I got it. If you can go for a bigger pot then I'd just repot it.

Really don't think this has ever looked so well. Good stuff that John innes no 3.
Looking good 👌🏼 - I use the same for quite a few of my bulb pots, mixed with extra grit 👍🏼
Looks great Dave. I use that for some things, it seems to perform well. 😍😍😍

Looks like repotting and cutting back the roots has done no harm . #signsoflife.
I often recommend people do this if they don't want to move up a pot size , they often look at me like I've gone mad so it's really good to see this 👍 might screen save to show customers and reassure thanks for sharing 🙂👍
@icedance thanks sam I'd read in a few magazines that they benefit from it so it will be interesting to see how it does this year.
Well so far so good David 🙂

I'm just repotting my acer and there are a lot of roots going around the outside of the pot. Do I just leave them or cut back a bit. I'm a bit unsure. HELP.
Busy busy🤗
Ohhh err. 😊😊
Hi @davewrightjoinerygooglemail.co yes u can trim straggly roots but not t main roots, trimming helps but a wee feed after too, hope that helps
Are you potting it into a bigger pot? If so I'd keep them. If you're using the same pot again you could trim them and add some fresh compost
@susieg same pot. @thehardygardener thanks. I thought it would be ok but not 100%.
Yes definitely good idea to trim then. And add more compost etc

This winter I'd like to repot this maple, I've had it for 15 years. I've read that it would benefit from having the outer roots cut back to promote new growth. Any advice on this please ?
Just had a Google Dave as I need to repot both of mine in the Spring... It doesn't say anything about trimming the roots on the RHS, Gardeners World or a couple of other sites I normally look on 🤔 I'd be interested to know too if anyone knows 😊 #advice #Acer #repotting
@rachelbrooks I'm sure I've read somewhere that if your keeping them in the same size pot it does them good, but to do it over winter whilst their dormant. Perhaps @mikethegardener my now ?
Oh right 👍🏼 I will be putting mine in bigger pots (they've been in the same little pots since I got them!)
