Hello David ive got French Lavender but its looking a bit tired when is the best time to cut back & how far? Do they like to be cut right back? Thanks for your help!!
David
Hi @tony. It is best cut back once it has finished flowering, usually late summer. You need to be careful to only cut back as far as the beginning of this year's growth. So usually about an inch, but leave a little green, fresh growth in the plant. If you cut too far down the plant will rarely recover. It is best to do this every year so the plant doesn't get too "leggy" as too much wood makes for an unsightly plant! Hope that helps.

Blimey that looks lovely close up. Bet it smells good too.
So finally I have gotten around to pruning the lavender (thanks to GT for the reminder!!). I managed to get a few good sized bunches of clippings together to place on our pillows during the day. The scent of lavender helps you have a great night sleep. If you haven't tried it I recommend giving it a go, it really does work 🌿...😲😲😲😲
