I'm new here, and to gardening. From the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA. Zone 4/ 5, lots of sand here. Interest: perennials that won't get eaten!

@KariSamuel these were planted circa late 90's. Before the neighbors house & fence. As a kind of privacy, for a basement bedroom egress window. I prune any branch that grows towards the fence. Did I let them get too tall?

@KariSamuel I suspected the fence re them not all blooming anymore..? I did cut off the old blooms I could reach, per your advice. Hope I did it right!

I don't think they can get, too tall. You've been to Mackinaw island?

???: This row of #lilacs has different shades of lavender, purple, & white. I got them from different people at different times. At first only the purples bloomed, I thought it was because they were older... I anxiously awaited for at least 3 colors to bloom at once. They never have :( . Several years ago the purples stopped all together, and only the whites bloom. Any advice?

I know they only bloom on old wood, so prune judiciously. And that the #rosechafer will eat the heck out of the blooms and buds. Beyond that, do they get enough sun?

My father in law (x) was from Escanaba

@lesliecole49 Escanaba is 7 miles South of us! Have you been to Gladstone? Re the lilacs, I wondered if the neighbors fence, in picture, blocks too much sun. But then why would the whites still bloom? & of course it is on the South side! The #lilacs run East to West.

That's too funny, he was really from Gladstone. I've only been thru it once. Know any Davis '? Lilacs need alot of sun, could be the fence, besides that, I really don't know why they aren't bloomimg. I'm sorry.
