Help me identify this plant! Morning all! I had two of these given to me by a neighbour earlier in the year. They’ve taken really well, both, but I have no idea what they are. I’d like to be able to divide them up in the future but have no idea if that’s possible. Any help appreciated!
Thankyou for the responses guys, @Hayley.R, @rbetts25, @angiecrazycatlady, much appreciated. My neighbour gave me two cuttings that he had pitted for us late last year, they were maybe 2” when I planted earlier in the year. They’re standing a good 2ft now and he colours are lovely. I want to do them justice as they have been in his family all his life (he’s 94!). If he moves, he just takes a few cuttings and then divides when they’re established. No pressure haha!
What a great history! No pressure indeed! It’s a fair bet that they are a heritage variety, you should get onto plant heritage and see if it is variety that is not in the National collection, would be interesting.
@Hayley.R No worries! Im terrible-if it doesn’t have the little tag in the pot I’m clueless! @angiecrazycatlady He has, quite an achievement! I think 6ft are too tall for me, about where they are is good, adds a bit of height. Am I to assume the seeds are in the heads?
Yes as the dry out just run them in your hands and the seeds come away from that cone bit on top. I'm not sure what variety mine are but I've seen most are smaller them mine, my garden used to be a small holding with pigs so I have good soil and everything grow mad here 😊

Looks like a #coneflower of some variety , sorry I can’t say which one 🧐 @dcm1891 . They can be divided every 3-4 years depending on big they are,
I think it’s a type of #helenium Daniel! @dcm1891
Yes it a Helenium, you can also save the seed as they are really easy to grow from seed and usually look identical to the parent plant 😊

It is a great history. No info on the Plant Heritage site though, so must be fairly common!

Wow he must have been taking cutting for years. Mine are 6ft tall now if I don't give them the Chelsea chop 😁

Lovely, Thankyou for that. I’ve not managed to successfully grow anything from seed yet, maybe I’ll be more successful with these!
