@grynnat this is the new pot I transferred my Big boy into. This pot was previously a strawberry pot so I'd say as long as the pot in free draining then any type (shallow/deep/etc) of pot will work.

@grynnat I've had my Big boy for over a year and its always been in the same pot. I repotted recently in a bigger sized pot however it wasn't truly necessary yet. I could have easily gone another year, maybe even a year and a half before it was in desperate need of repotting.

@PunkyKy @cyndi someone from my FB group confirmed this is normal and that it's "pupping" which I'm not entirely sure what that is.

They explained further "An offshoot. It is a new plant technically speaking. Should give the mother plant a bushy look as it gets bigger. Can happen for a multitude of reasons but mostly likely is because it's healthy and has the energy to do it"

Its not the new shoots that could be a problem, it's the way they get them that's messing things up. If young plants develop new little offshoots there's not really a problem.The problem is that your plant is most probably IV-cultured. It's rather common for IV-ed Nepenthes to have little side-effects due to hormonal imbalances in the media. One of the most common side-effectis the excessive production of shoots, due to a too high or low concentration of one of the hormones in the media. Contd.

I would give it a little more light to balance out the hormones auxin/cytokinin and produce a root that's in balance with the rest of the plant. I did a little research....its not relatively a bad thing....been known to happen...but too many of them is a result of this hormone imbalance. I would just let it grow for now and see what you end up with. ☺

Just in case...and you can usr it for other plants...its a fungicide and pesticide. And remember to follow directions very carefully on package. You don't want too much neem....and mix with distilled water.

#nepenthes don't need to sit in a water tray...it will rot the roots to stay water logged. But it does need to stay consistently moist....you can top water them and they also like to be sprayed with a spray bottle.

Yes that is bad....i would re-pot. I have no idea why there are fertilizer beads in the soil. Where did you get this? I have never heard of or seen this so far in my adventures into carnivorous plants. That's the biggest no no is to fertilize the soil....some professional growers use spray fertilizers for orchids or the California Carnivorous plant society has had great results with a spray fertilizer made from seaweed...called Maxsea. But that's just spraying the leaves. Definitely repot

There is always that concern with any plant...but this one came potted... so not much root disturbance.....there are several choices for soil.... some choices are: dried sphagnum moss and perlite.... or 60% peat moss 20% perlite 20% silica sand. you can also just cut out the sand and use peat and perlite....or peat, perlite and sphagnum. But the easiest is the dried sphagnum moss and perlite.

Top two are half dried up, per the instructions from the seller I have filled the pitchers (or at least the ones that don't have any damage/any dry parts) with distilled water about 1/3 of the way up. @PunkyKy do I need to repot or anything? Seems like it as lots of space to grow into but idk how the roots look either.

You only have to repot every couple of years....but pay attention to the soil condition....if you think the soil looks bad, then I would re-pot it... and in future every time you re-pot use slightly bigger pot for more room to grow. And you can also re-pot at anytime of the year with nepenthes.

I'm somewhat concerned with the soil it's in. I'll get a picture of it posted here in a minute. What would I put it in? @PunkyKy
