Help me identify this plant - i'll be honest with you, we were in Culatra, portugal when this was pictured. I think you'll agree, the colours are immense
@dougalhead it looks like a bougainvillea to me.... I've stsrted growing these for the first time this year, managed quite well despite the indifferent summer. They love a warmer climate and I have them (one pink and the other off white) against a white full sun wall which sets them off and allows the temperature to warm up. The little white bit in the centres is the actual flower, the pink are coloured leaves (that's if it is what I think it is!) ....i adore them, makes me think of holidays!
@tucksjersey Janet thats interesting I have had one in the conservatory for years but it doesn't really thrive. I have often thought of putting it into a bed outside but was worried about the winter. Have your's survived a winter here yet?
@David ...this is my first year so not dealt with a winter yet. However, having such success this summer I will do whatever it takes to nurture them through the winter, they can have an electric blanket or snuggle in with me! Seiously, am already reading up on recommendations for wintering them, but agree with @mftb that they will have to come inside. Next summer you should get yours into the Jersey sun David, you need a sun trap spot, preferably a white wall! They are fabulous plants! 😎
Ok so outside but in its pot, got it, thank you @tucksjersey and @mftb I guess there's not much summer left now but I will give it a few weeks and see if i can encourage it to flower 🌺
