The sky was rapidly turning black as I drove home today. 5 minutes after I got inside, this downpour was happening #midwesternnative

Sun breaking through the gloom on Inauguration Day, 1/20/2021.

I love black walnuts, I have a black walnut tree on my property.

Best tree ever, @Susanandsteve

Freaky but at the same time pretty👍

@emch, my mother had 6 Black Walnut trees along the front yard. I was 10 years old before I figured out none of the other kids in the neighborhood had green hands during walnut season!! But I still love them, so stately.

@cheriej I can never get over how many beisbol-sized nuts each skinny little tree can produce

@emch same here! And don’t even think about standing under them when they begin to ripen! They will take you out!!

@cheriej try it sometime in tornado conditions -- the flying walnuts sounded like boulders hitting the roof of the van LOL

@emch That would be worse than 4” hail!!

I've never been in 4" hail, but this was VERY exciting @cheriej
I walked down the hill to figure out why this puddle never dries up. Turns out this is running water emerging from the base of a dead tree. A spring? #curiouscases
Curious 🤔
Nope, @columbiariver -- as noted, it's a black walnut. Would it explain anything to you if this were, in fact, a cottonwood?
Well there were living black walnuts in the swamp a few feet away until recently, @columbiariver -- but this tree died well before the water started pouring out of its roots. So 🤷♀️
