Gardening in mostly deep shade in Zone 6. My passion is adding more native plants to my landscape & clearing out the foreign invasives.

Spicebush is a shade lover? No wonder mine is so sad. It's been in full sun all year 🙈

I am having trouble pinning down how much light it does need, @sushiwaitress -- all the instructions say it is an understory tree and thrives in shade, but the seller for these said it flowers & fruits best in full sun. I put both in half a day of shade and they do look better. The new ones are also getting half shade. 🤷‍♀️

Not sure I can count this bundle as a #newpurchase as I sent for them ages ago, but they finally got here today. Adding to my #hostplant collection.

Not yet, not that I have seen @sushiwaitress but with 4 of these growing and a Sassafras tree planted to boot my hopes are high...

New bare-root spicebushes (2) arrived awfully early for me to plant. It snowed all day today, if that gives you an idea. Worried about keeping them alive and uneaten by kittehs until planting time. Advice, anyone, please? @sushiwaitress you seem to be getting trees in the mail too; what's your plan for them?

Pot them and keep in garage? Spicebush are winter-hardy here in New Jersey so they can take some cold.

We don't have garages in my complex @sushiwaitress 😞 My solution was to pot the trees and set them outside in a sheltered area. Hoping for the best.
