#newgrowth on my poor, stripped-down rose. Looks like the Neem oil helped, so I sprayed it again and of course now it's raining and washing it off. So vexing.

Something terrible happened overnight 😢
Oh noooooo! Bug damage? So sorry Eileen.
Oh dear 😳😡😳
I have some of that, didn't think of it @columbiariver
Neem oil deployed @columbiariver but I fear if it was the leaf-cutter bee it won't make much difference...there were no clear signs of what created this #crimescene

This #fragrant tea rose hybrid really does smell like tea! It's the reason I had to have one.
Very pretty flower and a lovely colour
Beautiful 🤩
The type of rose this is is known as English roses. It and all English roses are developed by David Austin Rose. It started with hybridisation of old rose with tea roses amongst a few others to create a very specific type of rose with lots of features of the old rose but the repeating habit of tea roses. This one is on my wish list.

Very first bud on new Mother's Day rose -- I have wanted one of these for YEARS #fragrant
I really want to know why, alone among my roses, this one keeps getting stripped of its foliage. #curiouscases
@emch I’m so sorry. Is that particular rose especially tasty for rabbits?
I suspect an insect @mn-5a because of the pattern of the damage, but the R. rugosa 2 feet away is untouched. I'm stumped 🤔
@emch Sawfly?
Here's the thing, @mn-5a -- I see no insects at all and this happened overnight. Wouldn't sawflies have moved on to the next rosebush?
@emch Well … sawfly larvae (aka rose slugs) feed at night. They can defoliate a shrub pretty quickly. Maybe the nearby rugosa was not to their liking. Your damage looks like mine did when I battled sawflies a few years ago. Good luck and keep us posted!
