Gardening in mostly deep shade in Zone 6. My passion is adding more native plants to my landscape & clearing out the foreign invasives.

This forlorn stick with a single leaf at the end is my latest attempt to get a Sassafras tree going in my yard. In the week-plus since I planted it at the edge of the Gulch, THE LEAF HAS STAYED ON. Compared to other attempts this is a triumph. Described as a rooted cutting, it had no visible roots when I received it -- like every other "rooted cutting" someone has sent me. #midwesternnative #hostplant #trytryagain

Planted these outside today at last! This one is next to the deck, close to the Fernleaf Bleeding Heart. The other is down the slope, in front of the bank of walnuts. #hostplant #midwesternnative

I despaired when the 3 Sassafras seedlings I got in the mail, potted up immediately, turned black and apparently died. But now this! #hostplant #midwesternnative #101uses #hostplant
