I believe this is some sort of contorted purple hazel type thing. Anyways, for #advice day does anyone know how and when to prune to give it some shape and make it a feature again
@bexscott @ublaszko Yes I think it is a purple beech (weeping form). There are no lower branches, this canopy is all too heavy. A bit nervous about when and how to thin it out.
If you shorten the branches selectively rather than the whole thing it will remain natural. If you want a more formal look you could prune all branches to form a mushroom or umbrella. It depends what you'd like to see. Not sure when to prune but since it's a beech and often used a hedge you could go prune same time as hedges are pruned.

@lestercoughlin I think it’s a weeping variety
Looks like Beech
I was thinking it looks like purple beech as well @bexscott I think it would be nice to raise the canopy so it looks like an umbrella shape.

Beech is normally pruned in late summer x x @Emma915Jones @ublaszko
