This is one of my favourite hellebores. It is also one of the earliest, so I try to protect the flowers under a cloche during cold spells.

So glad I protected these from the extreme cold we've been having!

We have the same daytime temps @gjones, but no frost for about three nights in a row now. Such a difference that makes - little green tips are appearing everywhere! We're supposed to get sub-zero nights again this coming week though, but they are promising sunny days.

Beautiful!

So beautiful Mona!ππ

Thank you @gjones @moorna @columbiariver @ShelleySnyder

Welcome Mona!!ππ

It is supposed to be minus 12 celsius in the next few days, and that is highly unusual around here. I just couldn't risk the blooms on this hellebore. The plant can easily take the cold, but near-open buds like these will most likely suffer.

Great shot!!ππ

Seems like we're connected @gjones! They say our arctic cold right now is coming from Sibiria, so perhaps it is pushing our usual weather pattern your way?

I like to think I'm giving select plants the "fairytale treatment" @columbiariver. Never tested it in such temperatures, though - hope the glass holds!

I THINK this is painted bunting, it is either this one or its neighbor (the birds dislodged the tag) π

How cold is cold for you this time of year @gjones? Just above freezing here, but the extra light feels wonderful!

European zone 2 I think. I wouldn't want to risk it if my agave actually survives to that size, but it could work, especially if protected from too much moisture. @gjones

I couldn't find the link right now, but I do seem to remember that usda zones and the Norwegian ones are more or less opposite. Perhaps I was stretching the truth a bit when I said European, sorry about that. In Norway, zone 1 is the warmest, so yes my area would probably be about usda zone 6. This is very confusing! @gjones

Yes, I believe Lenten rose is the common name for Helleborus orientalis. @gjones

@gjones I see now that the GT encyclopedia has the name Lanten rose, I don't know if that is mis-spelled or a name that is also used.

That's going to be very pretty πππΈ

Definitely one of my favorites! Must try to propagate that one once it has grown on a few years, @LadySmiff

Sigh! The top didn't make it, but luckily the lower buds seem fine. #hellebore #paintedbunting #frostdamage

@gjones the plant itself is fine, and I am happy to see there are more flowers forming. Next time though, I will bring any tall flowers indoors to enjoy in a vase while the rest of the plant rides out the cold spell under cover. Live and learn.

Picture taken a few days ago. Right now, this one is taking a nap under the frost protection. Can't wait to see it again!

Incredibly elegant

These days there are a lot of imperfections to look past, but there is beauty coming through. More and more each day. Go spring!
