Wowza! I was wondering if my #prop worked on these 3 #prickly-pear leaves, otherwise I was gonna make one of them for lunch... I think I stuck them in this cup a few days ago?!? #newgrowth looks like they enjoy a good iced latte as much as I do! 😂 @rudester1
Haha looking good! I love new root growth. A sign of a good future. So you just stuck the pad into the soil? Nothing special? I want to try rooting one from the grocery store. I always say that and end up eating them. Lol @fearlessthereforepowerful
These guys went nuts! Just popped them into soil - I even ran out of pots, so used recycled cups from SBUX! I was told not to put this in ground, it gets carried away, not I see why! @rudester1
@dirtgirlworld this rooted so fast after just a few days - but it was back when we saw temps in the 80’s. I gave one cup away, but still have the other.
https://www.thespruceeats.com/mexican-cactus-salad-nopalitos-recipe-and-amp-variations-4129208 there are way more recipes online, this is one of my favorites. The fruit they produce is also edible.
I say keep him growing and try to multiply it if you can. It’s a great source of food. Local Hispanic stores sell the pads by the pound. @fearlessthereforepowerful
Thank you!! Glad to know I can also eat the fruit - I may propagate the seeds! I was given the fruit from one of my Peruvian Apple cacti before I bought it, those are delicious! I saved the seeds and am growing my first #seedbabies from them now!
