Someone recently gave me a great tip that seems to apply to both #lithop and #splitrock. They should feel like stale marshmallows. It’s easy to catch if you accidentally overwater by touching lightly. These were too squishy. I quickly pulled them & put a fan on their roots for 30 minutes. Repotted in fresh, drier substrate. While I’m trying to find the watering balance, better to do this than accidentally drown them. #mesemb #succulent #living-stone

So glad you were able to find some. I don’t spend more than three or four for a pair. I understand seeds aren’t a bad route either, Hanna is a genius with her grow lights, I understand these seeded can come up as quickly as a week under lights.

@dirtgirlworld she really should document all of this in a vlog. There are schollys just waiting for her in botany, bioengineering, ag engineering... I come from farm country, her early knowledge of this will serve her well.

@nojo920 I have done most of my reading on websites and got a lot of info from FB groups and asking people here. I nearly killed my first set of lithops because I was following the advice of the seller, who told me not to water at all unless it’s flowering. Well... the roots won’t set unless there’s just a hint of water to encourage them. But how much? It’s very Russian roulette with them, and lithops are different than split rocks. I shouldn’t really keep them together.

@nojo920 @thehardygardener thank you! These are the only ones I keep indoors all year round. The humidity in my zone would destroy them.

@crabby58 oh Thelma, along with my precious cereus cacti, these are my treasures - reminds me of Little Shop😂 they are planted in 95% inorganic matter, very little ā€œdirtā€! The rest is chicken grit (and I use rice hulls). They feel like stale marshmallows, the blooms on lithops look like daisies🌼 I rarely water. If you ever want them, LMK. My seller is the only one I trust. I can get you contact info. Too many scam artists in the succ world, I’m afraid, especially for #royal-flush

@mcghays my email is the same as my username @ gmail HMU. Not sure about rules for promoting someone’s business, so drop me a line off GT. I’ve been happy with what I’ve bought.

@sunlovin they can be pricey for sure. I think these were $4 each 🤦🏻ā€ā™€ļø LMK how the seeds go! You’re in perfect climate to raise them, I don’t touch these things, as long as they look happy, I don’t do anything. I was told not to even water the lithops if they aren’t in flower... the splitrocks have a 3ā€ taproot, so I butt chug those once a month. (Yaaa, now I’ve jinxed myself)ā˜ ļø

I’ll start the seeds in February. The Lithops have been growing well outside year round here in the ground. It’s funny, but I go against everything everybody says how to grow them. It’s the strong sun and dry air here in Vegas that makes them successful. It’s like living in Africa where they normally grow. 😂 I’m addicted to them and want a million of them!😂 Some more of them are starting to flower, I will post when they do.

@sunlovin they are such weird little things! No WAY I could put these in ground here 😱 just too humid! I’m experimenting with rice hulls for my inorganic matter... cheaper and lighter than chicken grit or pumice. So far, still alive! 🤞🏼
