Ruellia brittoniana 'Purple Showers'

Help me identify this plant. Have taken a better pic with close up of flower in inset. The plant forms a ball about as high as my knee and just as round

From what I can make of the photo it could be normal mono grass or even a type of tillandsia

@nej googled these and doesn't look like either but thanks for trying. Haven't seen it round much and a few people passing have made the same comment so maybe it's not common.

Ruellia tweediana looks very similar but mine is bushier, doesn't self seed and is still only one plant after more than 10 years - except for the cuttings I have given away @nej @brightcolours @KariSamuel @carolgs @Muzz67 @leisel @mrsflowerpot @deekay. Still confused!!

Just looked up rueilla and I think you could be right there are several different types available @frany66
